And a few more DA UNA BUONA FORCHETTA!!!!
Here are a few of my favourites from Gradara to Portonovo.
GRADARA:
For such a small medieval walled city, Gradara has a surprising number of good places to eat. Ranging from a traditional Piadina to fine dining there is something for everyone.
My favourites are:
LA BOTTE www.labottegradara.it Tel. 0541-964404
There is a small osteria which serves tagliere, crostini, salumi and primi.
The main restaurant is downstairs or in the garden in the shade of the castle.
Good quality ,well presented dishes in an old palazzo dating back to the 1800's.
IL MASTIN VECCHIO www.mastinvecchio.com Tel. 0541-964024
Wonderful views both from inside and from the large garden. Set in the shade of Gradara Castle.
A good selection of traditional dishes and music in the evenings during the summer
LA CANTINA DEGLI ARMIGHERI Tel. 0541-964127
Situated just outside the castle walls, this small family run trattoria serves good wholesome dishes from the region.
The views down over the coast and the imposing castle walls make for a perfect setting.
OSTERIA DELLA LUNA www.osteriadellaluna.com Tel. 0541-969838
Small osteria in the heart of Gradara. A few tables which give onto the main cobbled street leading up to the castle.
Traditional dishes with a modern flavour and presentation.
Excellent meat dishes.
TAVULLIA:
OSTERIA DEGLI ULTIMI Tel. 0721-476765
A small and intimate restaurant with daily changes of menu. The menu is small but presented with excellent service and high quality products.
Often frequented by Valentino as the owners are his good friends. A bottle from the Donnington Grand Prix takes pride of place on the bar.
GABICCE MARE:
ZENZERO AND ZAFFERANO www.zenzeroandzafferano.com Tel. 0541-953195
Try to get here just before dusk as the sunsets are to die for.
A modern ethnic style restaurant with fabulous views over the Adriatic coast.
Eros the owner/chef produces some new variations on traditional themes.
A sushi dish also features on the menu and the fish tempura is worth a try.
Service and quality very high.
PARCO SAN BARTOLO
LA CANONICA www.ristorantelacanonica.it Tel. 0721-209017
Set in a small borgo overlooking the coastline, the service and quality here is very good.
A good selection of wines, quality cheeses and a menu which changes frequently depending on the fresh produce available.
PESARO

Featured in the May edition of Italy Mag.
This restaurant is set in Palazzo Balassini in the centre of Pesaro. Fine dining with fresh quality produce, high standard of service and extensive wine list. Fine dining and ideal for a special event.

Seafood is obviously a speciality in the Marche, but most of the region’s culinary traditions are based on ancient and rural, peasant roots.

Mushrooms, truffles and meat dominate the typical dishes of the entroterra marchigiano. The beef here is similar to Tuscan-bred Chianina beef, but you will find that pork and rabbit frequently appear on the menu. In fact, porchetta seems to be one of the regional favourites, although one of my personal favourites is ciaùsculu, a typical salsiccia from Macerata, a minced sausage seasoned with garlic, salt and pepper. It is absolutely delicious on toasted bread. Washed down with Lacrima di Morro d’Alba or a Rosso Piceno Superiore. Need I say more:)

All in all, eating in the Marche is a pleasurable and delicious experience, but like other regions in Italy, you need to know where to look.;)
Ristorante Da Rosa - Macerata - very good food, traditional recipes
Il Diavolo del Brodetto - Porto Recanati - brodetto at its best
Trattoria la Cantinetta - Ancona - near the port - with seamen customers - absolutely non innovative - good baccalà all'anconetana
Trattoria - ristorante Sott'ai archi - Ancona - good fish
I would add: Osteria dei Fiori, in Macerata. It's a good after-theatre restaurant.
Il Diavolo del Brodetto... sorry, Notaio, but the best dish they do is not brodetto, but pesce arrosto: the best of Le Marche. But don't tell them, otherwise they will make it worse! :-)
As for the stoccafisso all'anconetana - not baccalà, there's a huge difference! - I also recommend da Gino, Ancona, just in front of the train station.
(just to be precise, I know you are an expert!)
In Ancona, definitely worthy are: Ristorante il Passetto, I'd say the best for fish in a high-level atmosphere, without spending hundreds Euros like Madonnina del Pescatore or Uliassi (good but too expensive)
Offagna (near Ancona): da Alocco, just ask the tagliatelle, and you will cry... the same at Sardella, between Ancona and Portonovo (but Alocco makes better tagliatelle). Best if washed with Rosso Conero in a bottle, whatever the producer (Strologo, Moroder, Malacari, Mecella, etc...)
...surprise, but only if asked in private... in Ancona, the best restaurant for creative cuisine and vegetable dishes.
Urbino: Trattoria Sant'Andrea (if I remember the name exactly), tagliolini with lamb DA URLO!!!
Serra san Quirico: Le copertelle, good restaurant, but, before it, La Pianella - da Raul: the guanciola of veal (veal cheek) is something life is worth of.

Angelo,
about the "trattoria Sant'Andrea" I don't know any restaurant in Urbino with that name...and Urbino is not big enough to "hide" restaurants....can't it be L'Angolo Divino in via Sant'Andrea? Can you describe the location or the place?
I love this thread, I have no time to dine out so I'm not very good at recommending restaurants! (and I can use some reccomendation myself!)

A newish place in Fermignano (10 km south of Urbino, towards Acqualagna) is the Trattosteria, right in the city centre, off the main square. They offer beautiful (mostly belgian) beers, a good choice of local wines and really nice home cooking prepared with good seasonal ingredients and lots of veggies (great option for vegetarians!).

Giulia
How about Ristorante Tre Piante or even the one on via bramante I forget the name now but downstairs 'trattoria degli amici' perhaps.
I also like Morgana for a pizza or even Gula.
I'm sure I never ate out more than when I went to Univeristy in Urbino. I love the place.
Just a few more thoughts
Matt

Hi Matt!
University in Urbino??? When was it? I was there from 1991 to 1999... a bit long, isn't is? But you know how it works in Italy! and I did many things in between!:D
I quite like pizza at Le Tre Piante (great eating al fresco with good weather) and Pizzeria Europa down in Borgo Mercatale: pizza with a view (of the Ducal Palace), but I have to admit that I'm not a great fan of Urbino restaurants...
My favourite in Urbino is surely Da Franco, though... both the self-service and the real restaurant. The patio during summer is great, the food is good, he knows me and suggests the freshest and best things and the prices are fine. It was also soooo easy to get there, even just for a coffee or breakfast: I studied Foreign Languages so I was just upstairs from the restaurant! ;)

Hi Giulia
I was there from Sept 93 to Aug 94 as part of the Erasmus programme so we would have been there at the same time. I was doing foreign languages too also diid a course on Calvino and Pirandello. I loved Urbino and really didn't want to go back to Uni in Hull for my final year! I think it was dragging myself away from dancing on the tables in Gula that distressed me most.
I went back last year with my wife to show her the delights of the town and she loved it too.
Can't say I miss collegio tridente rooms very much a little bit too much like a prison cell.
Now I wonder if you can remember something for me. There was a fantastic restaurant on the road from Urbino to Pesaro. The kind of place where they generally bring out numerous antipasti, primi, secondi etc and everyone takes what they want.
I know the Italian guys took me there but for the life of me can't remember what it was called. Seemed to be popular with loads of the Italian students.
So are you still in Urbino? Drop me a PM if you fancy.

restaurant in Loreto

While poking about Loreto yesterday, we found a restaurant worth returning to.
Ristorante Andreina
www.ristoranteandreina.it
Located in an area that looked like a warehouse depository, we thought we were entering the sort of rstorante (as we American say, “joint”) that truckers and other working people go to (my usual beloved lunch spots) Surprise, instead it’s a bit pricy and dressy, with carefully prepared food presented artistically. Maybe the sort of place for a special occasion?
Happy eating!

Dear Giulia, one year later I read your reply... you are (of course!) definitely right! It's Angolo Divino, in Via Sant'Andrea. :-)
As for Andreina, I definitely add my recommendation.
