:) ciao has anyone had any experience of using the italian E bay site, just wondered if everything went ok delivery etc thinking of ordering a few bits of the site but a bit dubious at the moment, ciao marco
This is another example of stereotype for TRULLOMARTINAFRANCA. :(
Italian=out-and-out scoundrel :)
Nice to meet you. I'm Italian and I've purchased from EBay.it 4 times from other Italians. Everything went perfectly smooth. I have several friends (Italians) who did the same many times without any problem. ;)
To sell/buy on EBay you must accept an agreement and give some info included the Italian CF. If anyone tries to be clever they have ways to defend themselves. Anyway that doesn't mean that EBay is completely idiots free (like EBay.com anyway).

I've bought several items from the .it site & had no problems......I think that the cautions that manopello & Sergio post are useful & applicable to the .co.uk, .com site alike.
Go for it!
(but keep an eye on postage costs!)

Calmo Sergio.. calmo.
I don't think Marco meant that at all.. I think he asked because he is possibly in the UK and is worried about overseas delivery more than anything.
:) :)

I'm very "calmo". I'm very accustomed with this, being much of the time abroad...in the end, we (Italians) made this happen. ;)
I just wanted to point out what I meant in the post addressed to TRULLOMARTINAFRANCA
I apologize if you felt I was upset about this. :(

Accusing you ?!
Never, Marco ! Not accusing anybody, just pointing out what I wrote above. It's not your fault.
Please, accept my apologies.

Haven't had any problems with Paypal personally - but then I deal in smaller chunks. Would trust it for items over £100 I think!
Setting up a separate account for such stuff sounds like a sensible idea, Becky! I should consider this for the future...
Good luck Marco! :)

Well - you'll all be pleased to know I'm banned from e-bay!! So can't rip any of you off............I never did rip anyone off, but in Italy they can't cope with my CF not matching my passport, and they have some dumb fax-center operators who won't accept that another bit of paper from the Agenzie delle Entrate covers my anomalous positon............anyway, I thought I could just do without e-bay and save myself the hassle :) :)

If you really want to subscribe to EBay.it, send o copy of the documents (CF and explanation statement from AE) by registered letter with return receipt. It will work.
They have very strict rules, but if you can provide evidence on your identity they'll let you subscribe.
Wow!

They seem much stricter than over here ... can only be good, or not??
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
It seems that every half-way computerised organisation in Italy defaults to searching the CF database - and I don't usually have any problems: but e-bay seem a bit paranoiac, so I though it would be good pose to say "E-bay? What is e-bay??" :) :) It's kind of flattering to be thought a potential retail terrorist...........!!

As I've already said....we are Italians...less reliable than you...more controls are needed ;)
Caro RELAXED,
Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember that EBay.it is managed by a Swiss Company...must check
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
As I have at least two different CF's I am off to open an eBay account to rip off as many of as I can.. as often as I can.. in any way I can!
I think just to be safe, I will open it in Aliena's name!
:D :D

...one doesn't need an account at .it to buy from Italian vendors....it's possible to use a .co.uk (or .com, .ie etc...) account & still buy from Italy.

I've bought 50+ items from ebay.it. I was happy with all but one of the orders - the other order was lost in the postal system and I received a full refund. I've also sold many hundreds of items to italians through ebay.co.uk and have never had any problems with rogues. I had a couple of items disappear again in the postal system, but I'd paid a quid for insurance so I got refunded.
Italian eBay take a lot more care checking out the credentials of new members than do ebay in the UK. eBay.fr used to be an absolute nightmare compared to eBay Italia for example.
Look for established sellers - i.e. a trader with 100+ posi feedbacks and ideally with no more than a couple of negative or neutral feedbacks. Again it is best if the trader has been registered on eBay for a couple of years and has been selling consistently during that time.
I'd recommend eBay Italia particularly for the food items - hams, oils, vinegars, salamis and so on. Surface mail postage is not too expensive, the quality is fantastic, and overall the price you'll pay is a lot less than you would in a UK/US deli.
banned from ebay

relax,Relaxed I too was 'banned' from ebay and in fact found a whole website catering for others in our position!
The reason ebay 'banned' me was that I regulary sell stuff for my mum's charity, like Burberry Bags,Hermes Scarves etc.We do well and the charity benifits.Mum gave me a Chanel silk scarf to sell and I had bids of over £20 then ebay took it off .Apparantely Chanel dont like people selling 'their' stuff on ebay and claimed our was fake but wouldnt say why.Brings down the tone and all.
To cut a very long story short I eventually got reinstated after sending copy of my passport to Dublin! Its the only way as emailing them is so slow.Just shows ebay are quite careful who trades there.
Ebay is a way of life to our family and we buy nearly everything we need off it!When we have a post box I intend using the it site too.
Nearly forgot if you use ebay/paypal download the ebay tool bar.It lets you see when you are on a spoof site and also log on easily.Very, very good.
Ciao

Marco why should Italian ebay be any different to uk ebay?If you check before bidding that the seller has at least 98% good feedback you should be fine as ebay will soon boot off rouges.
You may prefer to use a seller whose been a member for a number of years rather the someone who has just joined.
You will find most sellers want you to pay using paypal so you will have to sign up for an account which in my opinion is more fraught. To be extra safe use a bank account you've specailly set up for paypal rather than your usual one as there have been problems.
