does anyone know how long permessos for renovation last,Ive gathered three years?and are they then renewable and at what cost?

I think it depends on what type of permission (DIA or full Permesso da Costruire) - but generally it is around three years. The costs of renewal payable to the comune are not high, but the geometra has to put in drawings showing the state of work at the time of the renewal, so he needs paying.

Once the permesso or concessione d'edlizia has been granted, you have one year within which you must start the work and three years to finish it. With the DIA you just have the three years within which you must finish the work.

All applications must be signed off by what is termed a tecnico abilitato. This can be either an architect, geometra or civil engineer.
