Wonderful suggestions Eliza,
It's only another half an hours drive to be in Monte Carlo breaking the bank with all the money saved on the penny flight. A very good friend of mine who lives in San Remo also told me about a place nearby called Anphivena, so that might be worth you trying.
First edit: Don't ya just love this place Eliza? - I spotted ya ages before the old tricks returned - so I guess you didn't do double biology!
Second edit:Huh? No clue or desire.. hence your quote? :D
You pull your post - I'll also oblige. No Pushupullmi here.. Ladies first.. be my guest! :D
I've just booked flights to Turin at the end of August because they were a penny each! Has anyone got any ideas where to stay? The only requirements are that it's within a couple of hours drive of Turin and that there's a swimming pool to keep the children happy.
you don't really need to leave piedmont.
head north to the verbania area and lake maggiore.
plenty of campsites with everything you need.
end of august, the prices drop so its not even expensive.

well done!
You should visit torino, it is a beautiful city. You could stay at www.aisavoia.it its a lovely B&B in the city centre.
You could then move to the monferrato, its a lovely part of the countryside. this is a lovely place and has a swimming pool:
L'ALBERGOTTO
Hotel 3 Stelle
Viale Pininfarina 43 - 14035 Grazzano Badoglio (ASTI)
also the food is amazing.
You could stay at :www.commediadellapentola.it
you can download an article I wrote on the area at: http://www.latoca.co.uk/lu%20monferrato.htm
but if you wish to drive further you could also go to liguria on the seaside.
Of course in 1hr drive from torino you could go and see the olympic mountains...
enjoy your holiday!

i went to Turin last October, it s great place. Why not stay at the Meridien Lingotto hotel, its the old Fiat factory and has all kinds of facilities. I think it is on a leisure complex so there might also be other things of interest for the kids nearby and its not too far in to the city centre.

Decided in the end to go to Lake Maggiore. We've been there before so it's a bit of a dull choice but the children nagged me until I gave in. They like to hire pedalos and dive off them into the lake!
Thanks for all the advice anyway.

Lakes Maggiore and Orta are about 2 hrs NE from Turin Caselle airport.
Maggiore has more to do so would be my suggestion on where to base yourself- but Orta is the jewel of the northern lakes and is well worth the visit.
A day trip [by train] to Milan is also worthwhile
great area - enjoy!
Sounds like a good idea to me!! Do you happen to know where the airport which is called "Turin" by your carrier is located.......thinking that Forli is variously described as Bolgona.........and Pisa and Florence seem to be interchangeable!!
Good luck!
