A total of 332 Italian restaurants is featured in the prestigious Michelin Guide 2015, the reference point for haute cuisine in the world, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
No new restaurant was awarded three stars, the highest recognition, while two new restaurants have received two stars: Il Piccolo Principe in Viareggio (LU) and Taverna Estia in Brusciano (NA), both headed by chefs from the Campania region.
There are 27 new restaurants receiving one Michelin star, these include: Mammà in Capri, President in Pompeii, Il Tino in Lido di Ostia, Aroma and Stazione di Posta in Rome, Berton in Milan, Del Cambio in Turin, Cappero on Vulcano island, I Pupi in Bagheria, L’imbuto in Lucca, Winter Garden and La Bottega del Buon Caffè in Florence. Eleven of the chefs who were awarded one star are under 35 years old.
“As we head towards 2015, we’re seeing more and more talented young chefs doing creative, exciting things with high-quality products,” said Sergio Lovrinovich, editor-in-chief of the Michelin guide Italy. “Constantly changing consumer tastes are driving innovation and fusion with oriental flavors. But what makes the difference in Italy is the fact that these changes are taking place in perfect harmony with the fundamental ‘ingredients’ on which Italian cuisine has been based for the past 60 years and more – shared enjoyment, respect for nature, high-quality products and family tradition; in other words, with passion.”
Italy is the country with the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants, as well the country with the highest number of Michelin-starred female chefs.
Good reasons to celebrate, which we are going to do at one of these “starred” restaurants we can’t wait to try.
