Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's Prime Minister, has done it once more. In a public speach in Milan he called Obama tanned and then went on to say "You wouldn't believe it, but they go sunbathing at the beach together - his wife is also sun-tanned.".
Perhaps Berlusconi was rather disappointed that at the G-20 meeting of last week Michelle Obama denied him the customary hug and kiss other world leaders got, extending instead a very formal hand-shake. Mr. Berlusconi who seemed to display appreciation for Michelle Obama's looks (as the video below shows) and is well know for his "warm" hugs may have felt let down.
Mr Berlusconi, famed for his year-round tan, sparked international outrage last November when he first described Mr Obama as "sun-tanned".
Later that month he reiterated the remark, saying that anyone who found it racist had no sense of humour and was an "imbecile".
At a weekend rally in Milan, Mr Berlusconi even told supporters of his People of Freedom party that he has introduced a new element in Italian politics: morality. This despite the fact that he is in a bitter divorce battle with his wife precisely because he had been cheating on her with a series of escorts. He has never denied this, simply denying that he has paid them. Believing, instead, that it was his unique charm that conquered them.
