Italy's scuba divers have been drafted into the fight to keep the Mediterranean clean and full of life.
The Italian diving association NASE has agreed to watch out for algae, trash and discarded fishing equipment as well as monitoring endangered species.
''Divers can't stand by and watch the Mediterranean's continual decay,'' said Greenpeace's Alessandro Gianni', who is setting up the project with the Divers Alert Network.
