Free Accommodation for Japanese Tourists in Matera

It seems that the effort to gain forgiveness from the Japanese - after an unfortunate incident in Rome - goes on, despite the people involved having already stated that they want nothing for free, that they have enjoyed their visit and are even considering coming back on their own expenses.

The latest to sign up to Italy's Tourism Minister efforts to ingratiate themselves to the Japanese by offering freebies in a residence in the beautiful town of Matera, in Basilicata.

The Residence San Giorgio is putting up three suites, during the month of October, to be used with no costs by any Japanese national than happen to find themselves touring that lovely town during that period.

The owner of the residence, Alessandra Antodaro, says that the aim is to prove, once and for all, that Italian hospitality is first rate and that episodes such as the one the Japanese tourist in Rome faced are isolated and not representative.

At ITALY Magazine, we know full well that Italian hospitality is fantastic and some unfortunate incidents will not deter true lovers of Italy from visiting the country. We are worried, however, that with all these freebies going around we might just get more "incidents" reports - given that the "reward" seems to be further free holidays!
