With petrol prices on the rise, and growing concern over air pollution, exhibitors in Milan are hoping that Italians are ready for the era of the electric bike.
The trendy two-wheeled invention requires a minimum amount of effort to pedal and uses a fraction of the energy required to run other motorized transportation.
Saturday and Sunday the EICA 2011 will bring international dealers to exhibit their cycles and accessories in Milan. Visitors to FieraMilanoCity for the event will be able to test ride many of the bikes and admire memorabilia from some of cycling's greatest stars.
Those who want to partake in actual cycling can participate in a free bike tour of the city. The nighttime tour will follow much of the route that is taken by professional cyclers Giro d'Italia. The tour is open to all, but special spots will be reserved for electric bicycle riders.
The EICA will take place from 23 to 25 July. For more information visit the EICA site.
