2011 was a special year for relations between Russia and Italy, it was the Year of Russian culture and language in Italy and the Year of Italian Culture and Language in Russia.

The year long programme included exhibitions, concerts, conferences, theatre festivals, meetings with writers and linguists, and various other dedicated events in both countries.

A year later, with special events now over, the Russians’ love for all things Italian continues to grow steadily and British born journalist and presenter Martyn Andrews is currently exploring Италия (Italy) in Moscow in a weekly culture show called Moscow Out, on the English speaking 24 hour news channel Russia Today.

Starting from architects that flooded the Russian capital centuries ago, Moscow’s love affair with the Bel Paese is now stronger than ever, from pizzerie to Italian wine shops, trendy fashion houses to language schools, the show takes you around the city revealing the “Little Italy” within Moscow!

A fantastic chance for those who love both cultures to make the most out of a trip in one of the two countries. Have a look at the videos below:

Following on the idea of the official 2011 two-way cultural exchange between Russia and Italy, the Moscow Out team came to Italy to explore the Russia-Italy links from the Italian perspective as well.

In the first special episode in Florence, Martyn Andrews visits the Russian Academy of Art and talks about famous Russians who lived and loved Florence, including writer Dostoevsky, musician Tchaikovsky, film director Tarkovsky.

In the Eternal City of Rome, Martyn visits a wonderful orthodox cathedral, Rome's Hotel de Russie and shows the monuments to Russian writers that can be found in Villa Borghese park.

Great opportunities to find out about yet another fantastic corner to visit these charming Italian cities!
