The Terme di Caracalla archeological site in Rome was not damaged by Monday's earthquake in central Italy, Culture Undersecretary Francesco Giro said Tuesday.
''A thorough examination of Emperor Caracalla's Baths has not detected damage of any particular importance,'' he said.
On Monday officials said the 1,800-year-old site might have been slightly damaged in the 6.2 magnitude quake at L'Aquila 100 km (60 miles) to the east.
The Baths of Caracalla were Roman public baths, or thermae, built in Rome between AD 212 and 216, during Caracalla's reign.
The extensive ruins of the baths have become a popular tourist attraction.
