Many countries around the world, including Italy, are celebrating Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 10.
Therefore our Word of the Week is mamma, mom/mum.
Mother is madre.
Mama’s boys, or in this case, mamma’s boys, are known as mammoni (and if they still live at home in their 30s and 40s, it’s because Italian moms are the best).
A common expression that uses the word mamma is Mamma mia!, meaning oh my!/Goodness!
