Says a lot for the Italian love of animals doesn't it...

First the dog is allowed to roam free (it says he was a stray) by owners who it seems didn't care - no collar, no microchip.

Then the poor mutt is hit by a car doing 70mph (about 120km) on a side road, by a driver who confessed he did not even stop when he clashed with the pooch.

Didn't stop.....? WHY DIDN'T HE STOP?

Yes all that occurred to me too Carole. I wonder if the guy will be prosecuted. Is there a law in Italy??? And also in the UK ..... ???

Yes in the UK the law requires you (well it 'used' to) to stop if you hit a dog - but, surprisingly, not if you hit a cat!

I can't imagine that there would be a similar law in Italy, but even if there was - woulld anyone bother?

What about a chicken? Or a rabbit?

Alas, no.
Not even hedgehogs...

An awful story, but I doubt the driver will be prosecuted. The Italians, as lovely as they are, not at all sentimental about animals - let's hope he finds a good home now, he deserves it!

If the puppy had been chipped I dare say the owners would be getting a bill for any damage to the car!

Poor thing! I do hope that he will find a good home.
