World Cup winner Marcello Lippi has returned as Italy coach after the departure of Roberto Donadoni, the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) announced on Thursday.

Lippi, 60, will be presented at a press conference on Tuesday, the FIGC said.

Donadoni, 44, had his contract terminated earlier on Thursday after Italy's failure to reach the Euro 2008 semi-finals.

Lippi won five Serie A titles and one European Champions League with Juventus before taking over Italy in 2004.

He rallied the squad in the midst of the 2006 Calciopoli scandal to lift the World Cup in Berlin after a penalty shoot-out against France.

He left the job with a 17 win, ten draw, two loss record.

Lippi reportedly refused several club offers since he stepped down after Germany 2006.

He is currently employed as a Sky Italia pundit.
