La Scala Theatre’s 2013/2014 season opens in Milan on December 7 with La Traviata.
The new season includes 16 productions: 10 operas and 6 ballets.
Seven opera titles out of ten are by Italian authors (Verdi, Rossini, Donizetti, Mascagni) and based on an Italian libretto.
Giuseppe Verdi retains the dominant position with three titles: La traviata, Il trovatore, Simon Boccanegra.
Daniel Barenboim, the Musical Director, will conduct three operas: The Tsar’s bride, Simon Boccanegra by Verdi, and Così fan tutte by Mozart.
The Ballet Season begins on 17 December with a Ratmansky Evening. The Ballet Season features titles of the classical repertoire, such as Jewels by Balanchine, The Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet.
Etoiles and guest artists will include Svetlana Zakharova, Roberto Bolle, Massimo Murru, Natalia Osipova, Leonid Sarafanov, Polina Semionova, Ivan Vasiliev and Friedemann Vogel.
