Ragusa province is historically the safest in Sicily. Obviously if you buy a house, leaveitempty for mostof theyear and dont secure it well, it doesnt matter where it is - you will get unwelcome attention. However, there is very little crime - against property or persons in Ragusa, MOdica etc, and the further from thecoast you go the safer it is. Giarratana, Monterosso Almo have virtually no crime at all. There is Zero crime on the small islands - Salina, Vulcano and so on - for obvious reasons. Also almost no traffic. Close to the ocean and a shop.

Hi, I am from Sicily but even if I travelled and lot and I've been abroad for a long time, I come back in Sicily 3 or 4 times every year, because I love that country and my parents still live in Sicily, so I really have many experiences here. My advice is to buy a house in the east side of Sicily. The most beautiful place is in the east slopes of Etna becase it's like a Paradise. In that period (so since December to April) you can go skying and you can sunbathe by the sea in the same day!! The mount Etna it's far just half an hour from the sea, here there is a nice slope skiing and many times every year you can go and see explosion and lava flows without danger, becase Etna's lave is particularly viscous.I am selling my grandmother's house in the "Wine Etna Routes". In my opinion it's like an heaven in Earth. If you need more information just write me an e-mail. That's my address: anthea93@live.itI hope to hear from you soon. Anthea
