DRIVING TO ITALY FOR CHRISTMAS

You've got until Saturday to enter France, before the entry ban for UK citizens comes into place.

European PET Passport.

Anyone had experience of getting a European Pet Passport for a dog in Italy (or possibly France, when we drive down)

As a Brit with a holiday home in Northern Italy, its been over a year since I have been able to visit it.  Last time was in February 2020, when the highlight was a meal out with Italian friends in a crowded restaurant in Bergamo!  Luckil

Travelling through France - UK Quarantine

Looks like people travelling through France to the UK could well be soon required to quarantine themselves for 2 weeks on their entry into the UK.

Are there companies in Italy that just change kitchen units doors and worksurfaces, rather than a complete replacement of the units?

My house has a semi-underground store room that was nice and cool during the recent very hot weather - the dog and I spent a lot of time in it - me reading and him asleep on the floor.

Interesting that "nobody checked" on entering Italy from France.

However, one of my concerns is "how do you cope with getting a PCR test to enter the UK?" ........

Getting one done in Italy has timing probs on getting into UK, and yes, I know that you can drive non stop to the Channel port/terminus- but that isn't practical for us old timers, or  something I'd want to do anyway.

Thanks for the update

It seems pretty clear on the  government website

"Transfer of residence relief

Transfer of residence (ToR) relief is available when you:

  • transfer your normal place of residence - it allows you to import your goods, including animals and means of transport, with relief from import duties and charges
  • are a student coming for full-time study
  • are moving to get married or enter into a civil partnership
  • are moving following your marriage or having entered into a civil partnership

The relief exists for those persons who wish to make the UK their normal place of residence. This means the UK will be your main principal home. The relief is only available to ‘living persons’ and their personal property. It is not available to trusts, companies, corporations, associations, groups or organisations.

There is no relief for goods imported from secondary and holiday homes.""

So -

- if bringing goods back from holiday home - you should pay tax

- if moving permanent home back to UK - no tax

Buying a car?  I have heard that some get an Italian to buy a car and insure it, then use it themselves.. (obviously you pay for all costs)

Any response yet?

Dont know about Tony 114, but the Pontarlier route is one we use when we take the dog with us - good hotels where dogs are more than welcome (ie. They can go inside restaurants if it's too wet/cold to eat on terraces) in Bapaume, Beze and Sion

It's an easy route, with plenty of motorway driving and the drive above lake Geneva is great for views.  Also, the drive up the Simplon Pass is one of the most scenic.

Problem is the autoroute charges make it more expensive than the Mulhouse route.

Vignette-

we enter Switzerland near Mulhouse, but pop over the border onto the German autobahn and get the vignette at the German services at Bad Bellingham.

Which route are you taking? - I see Switzerland's borders are locked up pretty tight

You may need to check out whether you'll be stung for import taxes
