Anyone used the Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry service? I'm hoping to drive down to the holiday home later this year, and was thinking of using the service.

By chance I went on the old Forum yesterday - found that someone had PM'ed me from that forum only a few days ago.   I hadn't got any notification of a PM, but obviously the old Forum PM system still works    It might be worth doing the odd visit

There is an interesting article in today's G2 section of the Guardian newspaper by a woman who moved to Italy, founded a successful business, and has now moved back to the UK [but still has the business] because she missed London

I did a quick google along the lines of    "UK Computer delivery italy"  and found things such as  http://www.powerc.com/uk/gp/pc%20delivery%20to%20europe/1/pg/about.eu-custom-pc who seem to deliver - [there were others - this is just an example]

According to  http://www.romebuddy.com/givesadvice/computers4.html   “Apple Macintosh dealers often tend to be small, friendly, caring, family affairs. FBM in Via Flaminia [in Rome] certainly is – That’s where I bought my Mac, and a major factor in buying a Mac and buying it from FBM was because they were able to supply it to me with the English Operating System pre-installed. They also keep English versions of most popular Mac applications in stock, and they're sales people also speak good English, so communication isn't a problem. The other advantage of this store is that it's in central Rome, so you won't have to travel miles to get to it.”

At the opera;-

  • Dress casually
  • take a large picnic - be prepared to share/swap with others there
  • take wine - not soft drinks - and plenty of it
  • sing along - everyone does [except the posh twits]
  • take a cushion to sit on
  • take warm clothes - it can get chilly at night
  • take a waterproof - if its raining, and cancelled you get a refund AS Long As You Are Still In the Ampitheatre [my mate was there when they cancelled at 2200hrs - after most had gone home]
  • ENJOY yourself

"The land could do with being cleared / levelled a bit around the house." Do you need permission from your Commune to carry out such landscaping?

Answer to: Motorway tolls
Tue, 07/06/2010 - 13:08

Calais - up to Dunkirk, - Lille into Belgium- on to Luxembourg [fill up with cheap petrol] - on past Metz - Nancy and on to Mulhouse.  All toll free, and not much difference in mileage.  All motorway/dual carriageway, apart from about 40 minutes before Mulhouse. Then on through Switzerland - get the motorway vignette from  http://www.travel-swiss.co.uk/passes-motorway-vignette/vignette/purchasing-motorway-vignette.html Costs about £30, but no other charges to pay in Switzerland, [inc tunnels!], until you hit the Italian autostrada.

"Does anyone know where I can buy the rubber feet? I can buy in UK or in Italy." An inexpensive solution would be to put a couple of rubber washers [those used for taps] under each 'foot' and screw through them for the fixing

You could buy online.   I did a quick check – these  http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/  seem to charge £20 for delivery to Italy   These - http://www.theasiancookshop.co.uk/about-us--delivery-info-2-w.asp charge about £25   In Arezzo, try;- Vivi Market,  Via Crispi, 58/c  - Arezzo Described as - International supermarket with spices and staples for Chinese, Thai, Indian, and Mexican cuisine. Tel/Fax:(0575) 22376 To find it, -  From the station, head across the road and straight up V. Guida Monaco to the huge roundabout, Piazza Guida Monaco. Turn hard right at the roundabout. It starts out as Via Roma and turns into Via F. Crispi. It's about 400-500 metres along.   Hope this helps

Colonel   You're not the only one who has problems - there seems to be a glitch somewhere May I suggest you PM Valentiina and Ronald - if enough do this, perhaps they'll get it fixed   [Any suggestion that this is a plot by 'them' to stop this working is pure unfounded speculation]
