We are thinking of spending 4 days around the Casoli area to explore towns we might be interested in retiring to. Does anyone have recommendations for a centrally located agriturismo or bed and breakfast that would be a good base?
We have been exploring southern Marche, Basilicata and possibly Abruzzo as places to retire to within the next few years. We have been to the province of Teramo several times but were not overly impressed with the area. We thought that Atri and

Could we please have the option back to be able to send personal e-mails to other members? In the past, I have used it for private discussions as well as to arrange get-togethers with numerous people whom I have met through the forum.

After many trips to southern Marche, and not being able to find a house we liked enough to buy, we stumbled upon an old rustico with about a hectare of land that needs to be demolished and rebuilt.

Yes, Lingua and italian Life, This Forum (in its old format) sent an e-mail both for private messages and when someone responded to a thread that you were subscribed to, so you didn't need to log in or check the site frequently to see if anyone had resonded. It would be nice to get this feature back!
Yes, it does alert you IF you log on to the Forum. However, sometimes a month has gone by when I have not visited the site, thus I had no idea that I had a pm or that someone had responded to a previous post that I had made.
Will check out the US based banks you suggested as well as some European ones, as we do have dual citizenship (Italian) now. Thanks for the name of the currency trader. I have several companies to investigate now along with banks so have my work cut out for me. Also need to contact some Europan banks to discuss possible mortgages, which is kind of a catch 22. We had been pre-approved with Banca Woolwich a few years ago, but I don't know if they still write mortgages in Italy. The BCC in Communanza told us we would need to be residents, although it helped a bit having Italian citizenship, but that there might be a way around this. They told us once we find a house, to apply for a mortgage, but we don't want to wait until we have found something to see if they will give us a mortgage. We'd really like to have some bank financing in place before we look more seriously for a house as we'd prefer to get a mortgage in Europe, rather than the USA. My sister bought a holiday apartment in Paris and was able to get a mortgage there, even though she is a US citizen and not dual.
Thanks so much Capo Boi, your advice sounds like the best plan both for safety and to maximize our trades. Is there any particular currency trader you feel gives the best rates and is the most reliable and responsive?
I already sent you a pm through Italy Magazine site last night. Did it not come through? I would recommend removing your e-mail from public view before you get inundated with spam.
Yes, I did not know that I had any unless I logged on. In the past, I used to receive a notification in my personal e-mail (outside of this venue) if I had an e-mail or if someone had responded to a post, like now. I no longer receive anything in my personal e-mail so if I don't check the Italy Mag site, I am not notified. I suspect that this is the same with others as well.
Is the facility for notifying a member when someone has replied in a thread or sent a personal pm no longer working? It used to in the old forum. I just logged on today to find that people had responded to a post of mine and that I also had a pm waiting for me. In the past, I used to receive an e-mail notification.
Salve Fabrizio, Good eye for correctly identifying the Roman cisterns in Fermo. We've been twice and never cease to marvel at their beauty. I am interested in both reading the article you are referring to and getting the name of the currency trader you recommend and will send you a pm. We have been visiting southern Marche (provincia di Fermo) for about seven years and hope to eventually find a house to purchase. It's been difficult as the prices are quite high, as you are probably aware but we hope that something will eventuallyl crop up.
Angie and Postmac, I agree about parking the rivalry and have written to both site administrators about this some time back. However, the reason for my initial post, instead of a private e-mail, in response to Steve's query was to clarify not only to him but the rest of the members what was going on with the other site and the tech problems, since it HAD already been posted here. I thought this would serve to clear up any confusion there might have been. Having said that, I think this should be the end of the thread as there's really nothing more to say and it's getting rather tiresome. I, for one, do not wish to keep fanning the flames.
Hi Steve, I believe that there was a technological glitch that has now been fixed. Try to register again. There is a message for you on a thread with your name on it of someone else on that Forum who is able to help if you encounter any difficulty.
