Located less than a 100 m away from the Ponte Vecchio this centralli located trattoria is excellent value for money. You will find it on a narrow street called Via Stracciatella, to the left of Piazza di S.

It is that time of the year again! Plants see to thrive, but the terrible weeds do it as well.

I did not want to hijack Ronald's thread on Sardinia and the G8, but following a post on the same topic by Adriatica and my own commennt, I thought that it may be interesting for many to see what we are talking about.

Answer to: Utilities

I agree with the advice been given. If your Italian is very limited you need someone to help you but the charge of 100 euros per utility seems excessive.

Very wise advice from Damiano. Look at every possible alternative as you may be able to find something with basic renovations already carried out for practically the same price. Here is a thread from the old forum which may be helpful:http://www.italymag.co.uk/forums/building-renovation/12313-rebuilding-ru...

Last Sunday, one of the most prestigious Spanish newspapers, the ABC, publishes a most interesting interview with Antonio Di Pietro, founder of "Mani Pulite" a team to investigate political corruption and of the political party "Italia dei Valori" (Italy of Values). The headline says:"This "Berlusconian" Italy is projecting a very negative image overseas".I am not going to translate the whole article, but he talks about laws which always favour the same people, the starlets surrounding him all this against the drama of many families who cannot manage to get to the end of the month. He says that the real situation is not properly portrayed by the media in Italy because " the government wishes to make believe everyone that things are just fine".He further warns about tje possibility of the mafia getting a share of the money which should go to the reconstruction of Abruzzo. Not a very nice picture. We can joke about Letizia and her "nonno" but it is a very delicate situation for a country that neither needs nor deserves this kind of circus. It should be added that this particular Spanish newspaper leans towards the conservative parties and opinions. I was surprised to see this kind of article published by them.

Alghero is an expensive place, particularly in August. I can imagine the scene, Lynda, at the posh restaurant.... a classic. The place still has a Spanish influence from the times it was part of the Crown of Aragon. In fact, the Catalan language is still spoken in the area. It is a wonderful town.

At least she does not call him "nonno". How generous of her! She deserves another pendant..... A more expensive one, this time.

Hello and glad to hear from you in the new place. We are all learning how to use the facilities and it is going to take a while for all of us.

In my case, the number of new messages received only appears when I go into the Private Messages section. So I have to remember to check it just in case.

I receive the full text of any PM addressed to me. Anyway, I would like to get some sort of warning when a new PM comes in as I have to check my box regularly to see any incoming mail.

Hi Lynda and a warm welcome. Do you still sail? Have you kept your sailing yacht? Wonderful place the one you chose to settle.
