A woman brought a very limp duck to the vet clinic.  As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, I'm so sorry, but your pet has

Fillide is quite correct in your needing third party insurance, but it would need to be for a B&B, not a normal house. If you haven't already done so, you need to sort out a contract for your guests to sign which should amongst other things state that any disputes will be settled under the laws of Italy. Good luck.

Can't comment on FB's experience, but it usually takes us about 10 minutes. Just depends on timing I guess. The check these days is quite perfunctory. One other point, the Accor hotel chains all take dogs, there is usually a nominal charge which may or may not be levied. Charlie

Hi Alan We drive the same route as you through Switzerland and have had no one ask re any pets, nor indeed is there any signage. The only time we have been stopped was with the van and we were asked if we had any chocolate or penknives, bless. I guess as the border is largely open, they accept the same requirements as the Schengen area. The pet passport should be more than enough. Charlie

Just to echo Flip, I would think your money is a lot safer in Unicredit than it is in Lloyds, given its a basket case propped up by the taxpayer who have the dubious pleasure of owning 44%. Italian banks were not exposed to the meltdown in the same way as UK banks who managed their affairs with all the aplomb of a lifelong member of gamblers anonymous. Transfer your money as Flip says and enjoy your new home. C

If you put Astra 2D into google you will bring up the satellite footprint which shows a 2M dish is required in Le Marche.   My neighbours use a 0.8M dish to get Sky near Visso and so this may be an option for you. Otherwise stream if your internet connection is good enough or iPlayer.  For further reading there are plenty of threads on the forum on this issue. Sorry. C

S Look on the bright side, it is 50* here in Kuwait today and will be 55 or 6 by late July and we don't have a nice cool glass of Verdicchio to cool down with....If only. The funny thing is, I have to be much more careful about burning in Umbria/Marche than I do here. Not sure if it is the dust/pollution or the inclination of the sun.  Still on KLM tonight for two weeks of heaven, Verdicchio safely to hand along with a nice glass of Sagrantino of course. C

S Garda would seem a good half way point with a good range of hotels. Try choosing a hotel from Alistair Sawday and dinner at Casa degli Spiriti which is near Torri del Benaco. Fab. http://www.casadeglispiriti.it/italiano/ C

I am now confused, not difficult when it comes to tax law. I had thought that as I have two wills, one in the UK and one in Italy covering my assets in each country, that each set of assets would be treated under the law of the country concerned. But here it is said that HMRC will still seek to tax your assets wherever you own them, irrespective of the tax liability or not in the country concerned. Is this indeed the case? C

S Unfortunately, the position is the same in the UK, your side of the meter is considered your problem and I am sure the good folk at your probably French owned water company would say the same thing, and then seek to flog you "insurance" at an eye watering premium. C

Many thanks F, we will add PSG to the list of places to visit. I guess we just tend to get very lazy when we get to our hillside and so must do a little more exploring. Charlie
