We have recently had a revisione carried out on our car (the equivalent to a UK MOT test). We were not given a certificate as far as i can see so my question is....
Could anyone tell me the current amount that is deemed to be "sufficient financial resources" for a UK couple when they apply for residency at the commune? And does the amount change every year? This is for a friend as when we applied we didn't hav
Greetings from Calabria! This is my first post in the new Community. It feels a little strange and unfamiliar but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon 8-))
We called into Belmonte Calabro Centro Storico one evening and thought it was a really lovely place. Didn't do much more than have a mooch around and a drink but it seemed particularly well kept and the views over the sea from up there are spectacular. I doubt there would be many English speakers - if any at all - but you will be welcomed and helped I'm sure if you smile and start talking. Enjoy!!
We have a short stretch of shared road which then branches off in three directions to three houses including ours. It is written in the deeds that all three parties have an obligation to share the cost of the upkeep of the road. However that hasn't really been put to the test as yet. Our neighbouring farmers come down with their tractors with metal "caterpillar" type tracks and it doesn't do much for the surface but they have filled it in here and there without being asked (and without asking from a contribution from us) which seems fair enough to us.
We brought over a lhd Fiesta last year and re-registered it here at the end of last year. (We bought it in the UK as we had written our other car off and needed something quickly, we couldn't find an automatic here at the sort of price we wanted to pay and we were going to be in England for a planned holiday so it seemed the best way to be sure we had a car to use as soon as we got back here). We went into the local ACI office with the documents and they filled out the paperwork, told us it would take a week to get the new number plates (oh yes I said, I'll believe that when I see it) but exactly two weeks from our first visit that was the case. Still awaiting the ownership document to come back from the PRA (sort of equivalent to the DVLA) but it was all painless - apart from paying for it 8-)) The local ACI office to us (its a bit like the AA) is hooked up online to the relevant other offices so there is no need for a lot of tooing and froing. They took the car off to the regional place to have it's revisione (mot) done and it came back with a new set of plates.
We have also taken a cruise ship from Genoa to Palermo when we were driving back. Saved the long, long drive down through the length of Italy and we had a couple of nights in Sicily and then a short hop across the Messina Strait to the mainland and a couple of hours drive North to get home. I don't recall it being particularly cheap but it saved on the stress of the very long drive and we got to see Sicily so killed two birds with one stone.
Charlotte, Thank you as always for your enlightened input. Would you have any idea when the new Regulation is likely to come into force? - I realise this may well be a "how long is a piece of string" question 8-)) Also, if someone expressly states the law they wish to apply now (pre-regulation) will their wishes be followed post-regulation without any need to re-write a will or take any further action?
Thanks for the ben tornati messages. There is a wealth of experience and goodwill that I have enjoyed following on the Italymag forums - hope it continues here!
