Ciao e tutti, Anyone familiar with Trapani? We shall be arriving on the late Ryanair flight which, even if on time, lands at 22.35, (June 22). We need to get to out Hotel in Trapani old-town.

Ciao e tutti, Just a little warning. Ryanair was weighing cabin baggage on the early flight last week from Stansted to Ciampino. I had practised so I put on my three coats & filled my pockets to get under the 10kg limit.

If it is a relatively new cooker it should (or could have) have come with interchangeable Natural/propane jets if you had requested them. I should try the manufacturer to see if they are available. Pip pip

Hi, Unless things have changed, I thought after 5 years  residency you had to be treated the same as an Italian no matter how old you are!   Also having an Italian wife entitled you to treatment as the spouse of an Italian citizen. It would be worth trying again at the ASL to see if you can get a more sympathetic result & get your T.S. rolled over for the next year. Make a fuss, take your wife, be firm.   There is lots of background info. on the old site if you need it. This is a good start: http://www.italymag.co.uk/community/post/italian-residency-uk-residency Follow some of the links back to older threads. In bocca al lupo!

Hi David & Maria Well if you feel it is the simplest solution for you;), I have heard of people using this policy to get their residency & Tessera sanitaria. It is certainly simpler than explaining the E106 entitlements to a reluctant Commune/ASL/Agenzia Entrate http://www.allianzras.it/salute/scacciapensieri   It might be best to print it out & get a yes or no before you buy it. There is lots of background info. on the old site if you need it. This is a good start: http://www.italymag.co.uk/community/post/italian-residency-uk-residency In bocca al lupo!

A few other insurance choices for you: Clements International, www.ajinsurance.co.uk & Italsure do expat policies. There seem to be others with a good googling ;o) Saga used to do one but only if you have a U.K address. In here is an interesting post from an old forum member called liketheroman about insurance here:   http://www.italymag.co.uk/forums/cost-living-utility-services/5638-car-i... in bocca al lupo

The MOT station doesn't have to be nearby just pre-arranged.Quote.Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT testYou can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle. This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test. I only know this because I have imported vehicles from abroad, sometimes they have been previously registered in the UK & sometimes in Europe. I wanted to know if I was legal driving from the ferry port to my home if I had an MOT booked. After a bit of shuffling at DVLA I was told I would be.I am not really advocating either course of action but if you do find yourself returning to the U.K. without an MOT or tax ring & book an appointment at your local MOT station to cover yourself.Salve

I have used Smart & found them to be very good. You can usually get through to the same person to get a spot quotation. They have also subsequently given me transfers of smaller amounts at the spot rates, i.e. smaller amounts than they would normally accept as a minimum transfer. The only thing I would say is ring round on the day you need your transfer & get quoted for your exact requirements as they vary a bit from broker to broker. Once I did this & got a cheaper quote from someone else & Smart matched it without quibble. It was only a matter of £100 or so but every little helps! In bocca al lupo Chris

Off the top of my head:Clements International, www.ajinsurance.co.uk & Italsure do expat policies. There seem to be others with a good googling ;o)I only know of one person who had a claim & she said there was no problem. I can't remember if she was with Clements or Italsure. In here is an interesting post from an old forum member called liketheroman (are you still around?) about insurance here:http://tinyurl.com/yllpnbeYour comment about people buying UK insurance & running UK registered cars is precisely what happens!I am a bit out of touch with it all now as I have an Italian registered scooter insured with an Italian company!! I hire a car locally when I need one

Hmmm.I actually rang them up about this. As it actually also says on their website:"Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT testYou can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle. This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test." They admitted that I would be fully legal once I entered the country (from a ferry) if I had an MOT booked within a reasonable time. I think they are worried about exposing a useful loophole. There are plenty of Insurance companies who will insure your vehicle in Italy whether on not it has an MOT.  And most brits I know only tax their vehicles when they bring 'em back to blighty. You pays your money & takes your choice  Salve

I don't know If it of any help but I am at the end of about 500 m. of  "white road" it was recently repaired to the standard for ordinary cars to use. This consisted of the holes filling in & a load of chippings distributed on the surface.I shared the cost with the two other users of the road, my part was €80. This was not arranged by me & is usually done when the ruts get too deep for my neighbors cinque-cento!Pip pip
