We all come to Italy for different reasons; sometimes food and wine etc to the fore.
Maybe I could also recount our experiences; We lived in Lombardy for 4 and a half years; in the Province of Mantova. There we had our residence; Carte d'Identita' and doctor. We then moved to Fermo.

Heiko; You're welcome anytime; if you haven't visited Marche then you don't know what you're missing.I would however suggest that looking at the wines won't really give you much idea, but tasting them certainly will.Oh, and I don't need any wine to misspronunchiate my worms.
If you come our way (Colli del Tronto / Pagliare etc) then give us a call and we'll take you to our local cantina - Saladini - and you can try their excellent reds and rosatos. PM me if you are going to be in the area.
Some years ago in Lombardia we were awaiting the visit of the vigili who, as ever, don't tell you when they are to call. They presume that since everyone without exception in Italy has lunch at home that if they call around 1;30 - 2;00 p.m. they will certainly find you at home. They need to physically see you in your property, thus verifying that you actually live there. Instead against all odds I was out, and Jean received the vigili (2 ladies) who proceeded to look around the living room and entranceway. Unfortunately at that time Jean's Italian language wasn't too great, and so she rang my mobile then passed me to the vigilessa. This bright spark asked me why she should believe that I lived there. I suggested she look near the door where she would see a pair of trainers size 46, and then check if she thought they were Jean's.... "Mumble mumble; va bene; "Buongiorno" ...Residence 'awarded' without problems.
Sarah; your sentiments to Fisichella and Trulli are truley very kind, although I've looked through the site and unless they are under assumed names I can't see that they are subscribed to the Community...
Just got back from a shopping trip to our local HyperMarket - Iper Co-op at Castel di Lama near Ascoli Piceno - and they stock the items that I've already told you about, plus in the fruit & veg department a similar product packaged in a flat plastic tray and found where you can get the sun dried tomatoes etc in the same sort of container. For info; the Co-ops in our area come under the collective 'banner' of Co-op Adriatica, however I note that you're CO which I presume is Como, so you will probably come under Co-op Estense - www.e-coop.itHope this helps...
I think you'll find that info@gigambarelli.com is an e-mail address. Impossible to see a catalogue but instead could be used to request one. Could the site /catalogue be found at www.gigambarelli.com instead?

we actually find this type of garlic etc in our local supermarket
You can try burying them in sand; not builders sand however as this may have chemicals in it
Not sure where you guys are shopping, but we find everything we need (and Jean is an ambitious cook) at the local Super/Hyper markets such as Co-op, Oasi etc.We can also find about 4 or 5 different types of salt - bottom shelf as it can be heavy.Just out of curiosity (and out of the box) we live along the Salaria - the road used by the Romans to take salt from Porto D'Ascoli to Rome to pay the soldiers. They were paid in salt (sale) hence the road is the Salaria - and putting that all together results in our remuneration being our 'Salary'. But then everybody knew that...
