Hello, folks. We are looking to move (retire) to Italy but we have the problem of having a good portion of our funds tied up in property which needs to be sold in order to release equity.
Thank you, Ugo. My Italian is only good enough to get the general gist of this legislation, but I think it means I am correct about early repayment not being subject to penalty. Is it possible to contact you without filling in that horrendous form on your website?

There's no desperate rush and anyway, we are going to move on to Laveno for the second week of our fact-finding mission - it is somewhere that appeals to me on many criteria and we both love the lakes. We were persuaded to look around Lucca (which we both also like a lot) by relations who live in the province. I think the decision is going to be down to 'gut reaction' - hope we both have the same one! I understand that it is illegal under Italian law to charge a premium for paying a mortgage off before the full term so interest-ony mortgage seems like the way to go.

Radio24 104.8 FM is good. It's almost all talk radio, lots of news, lots of phone-ins - good for listening to different voices and accents.
