Good news about access to cash via cash machines (ATMs) using British bank cards. We like many others have been having problems for a while accessing cash this way.
Yesterday we visited the Cinque Terre with some friends who are staying with us. We had a lovely day but is was nearly ruined at the end by an incident on the train back to La Spezia.
Yes come on Serge - a full gallery to make us all even more envious. We would love to do more but unfortunately we are still only visitors and have to think when happens to the plants when we are in the UK.
And I thought it was only our silly dog that chased the lizards. We had one with no tail last summer. On other issues raised in this thread, it's eurotunnel for us - back of the estate open - dogs love it especially as one does get car sick so we would not want to risk a choppy channel crossing - and of course on the train you stay with them.Sand flies - Leishmaniasis - we have the scalibor collars for the dogs in the summer even though we are in the hills it is not worth taking the risk. Incidentally we have discovered that these collars also keep off ticks but we will still try the apple cider vinegar in the water.
It's 40 swiss francs for the year. We pay by visa at the booth (and use the toilets there as well) but you can buy it at the services before you get there - or on line. If you pay at the booth like us, when you put in your pin, it asks if you want to pay swiss francs or GBP. Put is swiss francs otherwise they charge a silly exchange rate.We too have never been kept waiting at Basle more than 5 minutes - we usually arrive there from France about 8.30 Sunday morning and return about 6.30 Satruday night. we usually travel weekends as the UK roads (M25, M1 etc) are quieter. We stay overnight at Wassleonne - left of Strasbourg.
I understand that they are doing away with the check in desks and just having bag drops. I pressume they will have to have machines to print out your case lables if you have hold luggage. These have been around for a while. I know BA have used them on Eurpoean flights. The trick is to beat Ryanair at their own game. I have just booked flights for October at £4 . If you pay less than £5 the on-line check in fee is waived and as I have an electron card, the return flight was £8 - hand luggage only of course. I could have paid for a hold bag but that would have been another £10 not as under the old system £10 plus the check -in fee. I think Ryanair have missed that one - or have I let the cat out of the bag now!!
