Ciao a tutti! I’m wondering if anyone has ever driven to Italy with dogs and cats in their car? I’m moving over to Molise in about 4 months time and right now my main concern is how to get my little gang over there.
Has anyone else noticed a problem with items being posted from the UK to Southern Italy? My friend lives in Molise and usually when I post something it takes about 7 days at the most (this has been the case for the last 5 years or more). Now how
Has anyone heard about possible strike action at Stansted? I've just been watching the ITV news, they were talking about the proposed strike action by BAA then threw in the line 'that coupled with possible strike action at Stansted' but didn't go
Everytime I visit my friend in Italy (Molise) the one thing she often asks me to bring over is duvet sets. I don't know about anywhere else but certainly in the South where she is they are way more expensive than in the UK. As for towels, she has to buy cheapish ones in whatever colour is available from the weekly market, if she wanted good quality ones in a colour of her choice they'd also cost a fortune. I also take baby vests and baby tights over for her - they are both much more expensive than in the UK and the Italian versions are not great quality, the tights in particular go bobbly and worn very quickly.
I'm moving to Italy myself in January and top of my list of items to take over is bedding and towels. I'll also be stocking up on my underwear from M&S before I go as that's also very expensive especially if you're on the larger cup size, my friend is a D cup and the last bra she bought when I was with her cost 40 euro.
Thanks Flip, I wasn't aware that dogs have to be registered so I appreciate the heads up, I don't want to go breaking any rules unnecessarily! I already know one of the local police oficers, and my best friend knows them all (they drink in her bar and one in particular has a habit of running up tabs which he then takes weeks to pay!) I want to make sure I stay on their good side, it's not good upsetting the police in a small village eh?!
I investigated the option of flying from a NW UK airport to Northern Italy and then getting a connecting flight to Pescara a while ago but the timetables never seem to marry up. Even flying from Liverpool to Rome and then driving/getting the bus down to Molise isn't an option because the return flights are always around 10am which means leaving Molise about 4 or 5am and you don't get buses running at that time! A few years ago Ryanair used to run a flight from Blackpool to Stansted which was great and always seemed to match up perfectly with the Pescara flight......then surpise, surprise one day it just disappeared, just like the Liverpool - Ancona flight did. I actually wrote to Ryanair last November asking if they had any plans to introduce a NW UK to Southern Italy flight because there is huge demand for it. They responded to say: 'Ryanair are continuously looking at potential new routes throughout Europe. Currently, we have over 200 airports throughout Europe under evaluation and make new route announcements every quarter.We have forwarded a copy of your letter to our New Routes Manager for his information and can assure all suggestions are given due consideration. All new route announcements are made through the news section of our website'. In other words don't hold your breathe. I also asked the same question of Easyjet and they replied to say 'if you would like to know what routes we fly they are listed on our website'. Duh!!!! Try actually reading the question Easyjet!
Hi durobird/Allan, Yes, I've already started the process of getting their passports sorted, I thought it best to get the full compliment of treatments/injections for all of them so that if need be they can easily be taken back out of the country. I'm unlikely to ever do that with the cats but if I drove back to the UK for a visit I'd probably take the dogs. They generally like being in the car and have always worn a harness and seatbelt so are used to them (although it took me months to find one that my Shih-Tzu couldn't wriggle his was out of the minute I turned my back!) I looked further into the hire car option and it was averaging between £1500 and £1700 for a small car. The more I think about it, the more I think the best option is to take the dogs with me and have the cats transported over there by road. Especially as the cages used by the companies I've looked at seem very similar to what you've described Allan. I think it would be far more stressful than being in a car with me, plus they won't have to come out of their cages until they arrive in Italy so no worrying about where to stay with them overnight etc. No doubt nearer the time I'll be back on here asking advice about which route to take when driving down there along with recommendations for dog friendly hotels. It's great to be able to ask for help and advice from people who've been through it already and so know all the pitfalls Colette

Come on Ryanair/Easyjet/Jet2, give us a flight from the North West of England to Southern Italy. I'm sick of having to drive from Liverpool to Stansted every time I want to fly to Pescara!!!! The world doesn't begin and end in London/Rome!!!
That doesn't sound good at all, if my flight is disrupted after weeks and weeks of looking forward to my Christmas and New Year break I'll be devastated, not to mention the money i'll lose. Cilla, lets keep our fingers crossed that this is resolved and quickly! Penny, thanks for this, I searched on Google but couldn't find any information.
Annec, when you say valet parking is only about a fiver extra, I assume you're talking about per day?!?!? I'm in the long stay Dec - Jan which is costing £40+ but was £90+ for valet parking!
