Is anyonelse as fed up as I am about this changeable weather. Here (Lake Trasimeno) we are having one day of sunshine followed by three days of rain and cold. I am utterly pissed off. Is it the Jet Stream? What is the jet stream? Why does it not go away? My neighbours are say ing they have never seen a May like this. I've only been here five years and I certainly haven't.
No beating on rocks, just defrost. I can post the recipe if anyone wants it? The secret with serving it to others is not to tell them what it is until they have enjoyed it. I can't cook it at all in UK. Not availlable.
Why has nobody mentioned octopus? It's available here (Umbria) in frozen fish counter, all supermarkes. I cook it often but not i n the Italian way with potatoes but like the Greeks in red wine with pasta 'Octopodi me Macaroni. It's very rich and dark like a bouguinone, My husband loves it.
Hi Chris We have done this journey many times for 12 years. St Gottherd tunnel in our experience only has long queues in the summer and at Easter. It is very likely when you travel that the pass will be closed because of snow. I have only once been over the top and found it terrifying. We use euro tunnel by the way and travel from colchester to Lake Trasimeno. Also we very often use Ibis or Novatel. It is a journey like any other so buono viaggio Portia
Hello I have not posted on here for yonks, but read it regularly. I have got lots of good advice, have enjoyed (I am ashamed to say) the malicious attacks in the past from you know who. And made some real friends in the real world. Which for me is Umbria. I notice more than 300 viewings of the original post. That would be 15 each? Don't leave me. Portia
We stay in the Ibis in Locarno. It's a new hotel very near the lake (Maggiore) and many restaurants. We usually pay by credit card. I don't think many hotels take cash these days. Real meusli at breakfast.
Hi Michael thanks for the warning against the Indian in Perugia. We have noticed it and thought about going there. Like you we love indian and take spices with us to Italy. Actually I take them back and forth as they go 'stale' and have to be thrown out. Also like you we live part of the year in Passignano.
Ciao Charlotte, I do know the area well as we have a place on Lake Trasimeno. Do visit the lake. If you go to Tuoro Punta Navaccia there is a beach, various cafes and a very good fish ristorante Ciao Ciao. Panicale is a delightful small walled city with a good ristorante or two. Chiusi is an interesting old town with a good Etruscan museum. Our town on the lake is Passignano, which we obviously have a soft spot for. The lake has ferries crossing to the islands. In Citta della Pieve itself there is good ristorante we know Bistrot Del Duca. I am sure others are reccomendable. Have a great time it's a lovely city, all mellowed old brick. Portia
