Ref the many posts about the cost of motoring in Italy, has everyone seen the, to me recent, deal from Avis "Noleggio Mensile Urbano"? For around €500 a month you get a small car with a limit of 1,500 km for the month.
A little warning about strange behaviour by the Avis office in Bologna airport. We normally rent using Avis mensile and phone the originating office above to extend if we stay longer.
Trentialia or possibly Unicredito as its bankers, seem to have a weird policy about repeat bookings on foreign credit cards. Recently booked Verona-Milan online using credit card. No problem. 24 hours later tried to book return.
My upstairs neighbour in a condominio is claiming that a wall opened up by a previous owner has resulted in damage to his apartment. The administrator (a lawyer) wrote to me: "Dato che NON CI SONO DUBBI sul fatto che l'apertura sia abusiva . . .
Thanks, Gala Placidia. Members may wish to note that a second transaction was blocked, not "piu di due" as on the above website. And the policy of not allowing more than two journeys booked online within 30 days (unless one gets special permission via a complicated 48 hour procedure) is certainly unlikely to encourage tourism by train.
Managing your Kindle is not quite as simple as suggested above. This winter while living in Ireland Amazon univitedly transferred my account from amazon.com to amazon.co.uk. Attempts to change it back produced "Your Kindle account is currently registered at Amazon.co.uk. Go to the Manage Your Kindle page at Amazon.co.uk." When I click on "Go to the Manage Your Kindle page at Amazon.co.uk." I get the message "Your Kindle account is currently registered at Amazon.com. Go to the Manage Your Kindle page at Amazon.com." and so on ad infinitum. The problem is that neither Amazon.co.uk nor Amazon.com will allow me to buy e-books when in Ireland! Fortunately I also possess an IPad which, using the same wi-fi, kndly allows me to buy from amazon.co.uk and these purchases automatically appear on my Kindle and my Max laptop. HOWEVER it only allows me to do so using an UK credit card! I return to Italy next week and will be VERY interested to see where Amazon thinks I am and where if anywhere it will allow me to buy. The above refers to the wifi only version. 3G coverage in the Trentino prealpi is VERY uncertain.
Returning to the subject of washing machines you might like to note that, here in the Trentino at least, it is regarded as disgusting and unhygienic to install these in the kitchen. They belong in the bathroom or possibly cantina. Logical really - do you want dirty socks or even detergents near your food?

The Pappagallo is not bad but as frequent visitors to Bologna we prefer Il Bitone. It is a couple of km from the centre but easy to find - http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Restaurant_Review-g187801-d1111708-Reviews-Bit... More centrally we like the Cesarina - http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Restaurant_Review-g187801-d802877-Reviews-Da_C... Watch out for closing days, often Mon and Tues, tho' Pappagallo says it stays open.

Go for the big spectacular operas, Aida or Nabucco. I really cannot see Traviata or Bohème working on the huge stage: a garret 50m x 30m??
