Avis rentals - strange

A little warning about strange behaviour by the Avis office in Bologna airport.We normally rent using Avis mensile and phone the originating office above to extend if we stay longer. This year that office insisted that in order to renew we must visit personally their nearest office which they identified as Peschiera del Garda, a good 1.1/2 hours from our home in the prealpi.Fortunately I phoned the real closest office in Riva del Garda where I was assured that they could renew by phone.OK, anyone can have a bad day but I would be interested to hear if anyone has had a similar experience.Incidentally the above posting is partly to keep this forum moving as I find it VERY useful as one of your more isolated members.
