Hi  We need urgent information on this as we have been told what looks like rubble to us is "stabilizzante" a mix of gravel and sand to harden off and level out an area where a building has been knocked down to create a solid base....?

Hi   Has anyone any idea if the Italian Poste has the equivalent of a bankers draft and if so, are there are any limits on the amount and what is the cost...?

Anyone care to hazard a guess at the current cost to have an old(ish) 250sqm house rewired? Also do you know if they do low level voltage lighting?

We are unsure about moving articles over there as opposed to buying when we get there, but know it will likely cost more to buy over there and be more hassle. So we want to get an idea of the cost of moving some of our stuff out there?

We are here in Abruzzo now and are thinking about privately buying a car. We have been told we need a notario to buy, is that correct? If this is the case does anyone have any idea of the likely cost?

Ah posts on two fronts! Perhaps April could say why one was needed? At the end of the day even our solicitor , who was very honest, said "in Italy you really don't want to take legal action as it just costs a lot of time and money!

No problem. I should clarify, we did not really need one, but it was a comfort thing and in the scheme of things was not expensive at the time.

I'm with Ugo, we had a lawyer, but they were really not needed....

Last time I recommended her the person in question came back saying she was expensive! No idea how true this is, but know she (Cristina) was great for us. Link here to her website.

Going forward I think it is likely you will need a mobile number for most things. Perhaps longer term Italy (and the UK) will get with it and allow any numbers (not just local). In the meantime there may be a simpler way than the solution I had. It may be possible to get a virtual sim number using the likes of Skype. There are many more out there like "Cloud sim", but they don't yet do Italy, but I'm sure more than Skype will do so.

When there in Italy we bought a cheap mobile (€25<>) and had a PAYG sim with WIND to start with, then TIM simply because things were going that way then. I've so many old mobiles now it would never be a problem here.... Unfortunately pretty soon I don't think you will be able to get by without a "smart" mobile!

Have a look at the gov.uk site here, if it does not have what you want try having a look at the comuni you will be staying in on here. It will have links to the official comuni sites, but you will need to read it in Italian or translate with google or the likes.
