Given that several of us have businesses related to Italy, does anyone want to put reciprocal links on their websites, ie I put a link on mine to your website and vice versa?
I need to buy a flip chart and a printer to be delivered to my house in Italy. Has anyone got any experience of ordering online? How reliable is delivery? Anyone bought from Euronics online? All advice gratefully received Salutoni
Thought it was about time I got round to introducing myself, as I've been posting replies for a month or two.I admit to a lifetime's love-hate relationship with Italy and all things Italian.
Has anyone come across Italian versions of the board games Trivial Pursuit or Who wants to be a millionnaire plse? I don't want computer or DVD versions, but the actual board game.
Having just joined the community and recently bought a house in Abruzzo, I was just wondering how all of you living in Italy started learning Italian once you got to Italy and whether you are still taking classes or what you have found to help you
Thanks for this Barbie and Ken. I did not know this and will look into it further. A couple of people have shown interest but as my site is brand new (too new for a Google ranking), I wouldn't want to unwittingly pull someone else's site down. Also was concerned it might be against site regulations to post my website, but here goes: It's: www.italianforyou.co.uk Many thanks and best wishes
Hello everyone and Fromnowon in particular There's a collection of short stories from well-known contemporary Italian writers that your husband might find interesting. I'm using it with my Italian Book Club language class here in Cornwall. Some of the stories are a bit strange, but it will provide a range of authors that could be followed up on if they appeal. It's called Italiana - antologia dei nuovi narratori published in 1991 by Mondadori. I got it remaindered from the IBS internet book shop (someone in this thread has provided the full website details) and they were very good. They sent me 10 copies to the UK in a couple of days - so it should only take about a week or two within Italy!! Auguroni a tutti per il 2010 Pacentro08 www.italianforyou.co.uk
Hi James Shame no-one replied to you about this. I've no experience of the Scuola Leonardo in Milan or anywhere else, so didn't immediately post a reply. However, if you look for my thread 'How are you learning Italian in Italy?' of a few weeks ago, you'll find someone was talking about very cheap lessons from the local comune, which might be worth following up. Something else worth checking is whether the school you're thinking of has teachers who have a qualification in teaching Italian as a foreign language/second language. I have been in the business of teaching Italian all my adult life and it's a very different thing teaching your own language to foreigners rather than to native speakers (as you might get with school teachers looking for some extra work). I'm not saying it's essential, but it gives you an idea of how 'serious' the school is. If you've already booked, good luck with it and hope the move to Milan goes well. I have fond memories of the city from my postgraduation years. Shame the timing and the location don't fit either, otherwise I'd have offered to help out. All good wishes
Madonna's grandfather, I believe, lived almost opposite me. Not at the same time, you understand! And what's the excellent claim to fame Jenta? Clooney in my fave restaurant (where they also filmed some scenes for L'Americano) or Madonna's nonno? Would put smiley face here, but can't find them. Too late to be doing this, obviously! Sogni d'oro a tutti
Let's get to the important stuff! Film is l'americano,a spy thriller. Clooney wanted to make a film in Abruzzo to help the economy after the earthquake.
Having hired a car six times this year from Autoeuropa/Car Hire in Sicily at Ciampino airport and experienced great customer service, last time I went they had completely new staff and I had the same problem as described above. Car rented to me when it was dark and tiny scratch on door when returned - 406 euros worth. Fortunately I had an annual policy with a company which covered me for the excess and I've just received the cheque. Needless to say, I'll be going to a different car hire firm next time
Hi I posted a while ago on this as I very successfully used my mobile phone as the modem for my laptop half way up a mountain in Abruzzo this summer for only 1 euro a day when I logged on (up to 500MB). This was with Vodafone. When I looked three weeks ago before going out to Italy again, it had gone up to 4 or 5 euros which I think more or less takes it to UK prices. But at least you don't have to buy a dongle (or internet key, as they call them) which are a lot more expensive in Italy - though I think IWIND currently has a deal on. Hope you get sortedSalutoni
I know I've got another posting going on about the board game, but if you can record the programme, it's really good because people speak quite slowly as they think about choosing their response, you have the written versions to think about, and you're increasing your general knowledge/ cultural knowledge too. My students love it - even though they thought they would hate it when I first suggested it! You can get it via satellite in the UK too (which is where I am at the moment). When I started this thread, I was intrigued that no-one seemed to be going to classes, but now I know better. I've learned such a lot from this site in the couple of weeks since I've joined. And I will get around to doing the Introductions posting soon. Promise.Salutoni
Having done this a year ago, I looked into various companies and amazingly found my bank (First Direct) was as competitive as some of the specialists. So don't assume your bank will give you a poor deal. Congrats on the house purchase BTW, it's SO exciting! Salutoni
