If like me, one of the few things you miss in Italy is a decent department store, in particular John Lewis, you may be interested to know that they now offer international delivery for £7-50.
Does anyone have a phone number for Telecom Italia that can be used from UK? We started trying to cancel our landline/ADSL contract with them last October - following their instructions to the letter.
After 10 years in Italy, the last 7 of which have been in Le Marche (Macerata province) for family reasons we now have to return to UK for at least a year.
How easy is it to get to/from the airports by car? I have just re-read my post and realise a sentence is missing! Following on from the question re ease to and fro airports by car, it should say that if the airports are in easy reach, people flying in and out of Rome and hiring a car at the airport before going on to holiday elsewhere in Italy, may be interested in adding a day or two at either end and to use your place as a base to explore Rome knowing that they can leave the hire car in a safe place and not have to risk driving into Rome. Not quite sure where the missing sentence went, must have been gobbled up by the forum gremlins!
The setting sounds lovely and I am sure there would be some demand especially given the ease of access to Rome. How easy is it to get to/from the airports by car? One thing I would suggest from what you have written, is to really check out the local rules and regulations as to what you can and can't offer in a B&B. You may find what you would want to offer is not legally possible under the local regulations. As I understand it you are supposed to have a maximum of 3 rooms, offer only pre packaged food with expiry dates at breakfast and you cannot offer an evening meal, or any other type of meal ie picnic, unless you have an industrial kitchen which I think would then immediately take you out of B&B catagory and into the country house hotel one. I am sure you will receive some more informed replies but as has been pointed out many of the forum members either live in Italy full time or have a holiday home there so you may not get many replies from folk who would be interested in holidaying in the Rome area but good luck anyway.
A good way round the last is to join the blood donors association which gives access to free extensive bood tests every three months allowing you and your local doctor to monitor your health ( you can do that anyway a good thing to do and there's a section in every hospital) Brits are not allowed to donate blood in Italy thanks to the miniscule risk of CJD. Just over a year ago, my husband who has a rare blood group visited the local AVIS centre to donate blood but was told by the Dr in charge that although they had a desparate need for his blood type, they could not accept it as they were forbidden from taking any donations of British blood! As far as health cover goes, the paperwork required does depend upon your age and whether you are retired or working. If you do a search on the forum you will find loads of information - it also seems to depend upon where you live and how the local paperpushers interpret the laws.
I agree with Badger - oaks are among the trees you can't just cut down at will, you do need permission to do so and can be fined if you fail to obtain it even if there was a good reason ie dead/dangerous. You will be asked to plant another tree in its place, don't think it needs to be the same type. At least you will have a good supply of wood once it has seasoned!
What name is your passport in? My CF is in my married name and I have never had a problem - it matches my name on my passport and we have taken out residency etc etc without any difficulties whatsoever. I would imagine it would be a problem if passport and CF don't match but if they do then I would not worry.
Have a look here : http://www.meteo.it/Previsioni-del-tempo/Marche if you put in your comune it will give you a pretty accurate indication as to what is going on weather wise through the day and for the next few days in your particular area. There are certainly alot of those white flakes around.
Just as a comparison Intasure were £60 more expensive than our usual policy with Schofields. Cover not as good either Interesting, and just goes to show how important it is to shop around - for an equivalent level of cover the quote we received from Schofields was almost 4 times that from Intasure!
Isn't there also some ruling on maximum pool depth? I think I heard any deeper than 1m40 and you have to have a lifeguard present! Depth might be wrong but would be worth checking before discovering you have just built a pool which would be regarded as too deep!
