I forgot to mention that the Consulate in London do not provide information about IMU. Il the Comune (in Gaeta-LT) cannot help with working out my IMU (I don't understand why they cannot help; really baffled ) , I have to resort to a commercialista. But where can I find one? The Chamber of Commerce??? I found however a better form here http://www.amministrazionicomunali.it/imu/calcolo_imu.php which seems to me more complete than the one I saw on the Gaeta's Town Hall website (it includes 2nd home and other things).
It's good to know that you're all safe and some of you actually slept through it Phew! It must be horrendous :( , at the moment, for those who lost their loved ones 3 days ago. And the aftershocks are probably making everybody feel very uncertain. Italy seems to be experiencing quite a bit of activity lately, with earthquakes and volcanoes getting a little active (Etna) . But the distance from Bologna and L'Aquila to the volcanoes is quite large, so there can't be a connection there. Could Bologna and L'Aquila earthquakes be related? I've never had an account since I left Italy back at the turn of the 80's. At the time I had an account at the Banco di Santo Spirito and have no idea what happen to it. Reading from other posters is seems that Unicredit comes high with stars. Is it quite a straightforward process?
Well, I've signed the petition. Not that I think it will make much difference but let's be positive. I'm reading this thread that takes me years back when I was a young teenager living in centre-southern town of Italy, Gaeta (LT). My family decided to move there from Ivrea (TO) on the grounds of 'my health' , 'theirs' and, well, they fell in love with the sunshine & flowers there were ever present, year round. Yes, the sunshine, the weather, people's warmth, etc, etc, etc were great but I never liked the mentality that can be summed up with 'are you trying to change things here?' and 'the Government must provide and lead'. I do recall how backwards the town was, and having gone back last month after many years - oh my gosh! :o - I thought it was a squallor. Many buildings, including my Liceo Classico in Formia, still look as depressing as they did in the past. People were friendly and kind but inquisitive (nosy!) as always--privacy? What's that? The hospital in the nearby town was horrible with no soap, no towels, no curtains on the windows or by patient's bed . I had to fly into Naples. No comment! Sadly, Italian corruption is so ingraved in the culture that I doubt it will ever leave that country. It's far too useful to many and highly profitable for some. But who knows? Things might still change, sometimes, at some point. When? .... .....

Daft as in 'too high in price'? I can only drive automatic and have been told that they're quite dear, dearer than in the UK. Is that right?

Well, I've just spoken to a couple of operators on the helplines at http://www.agenziaentrate.gov.it and, as I've discovered, there is a declaration to be made on income/properties et all and fill out PF/2012 by 30 September. Note: only parts RB (Quadro RB) and RN (Quadro RN) need filling out for non-residents, along with personal data ('Dati anagrafici'): http://www.agenziaentrate.gov.it/wps/content/nsilib/nsi/strumenti/modell...
