Hi, thanks for your replies, I never thought of googling though a load of images of larvae made my flesh creep... I found out that they are called white grubs, they are the laravae of European chafers and can wreck a lawn.
Hello Angie and Robert, I'm sorry, I PM'd Paul about this, I should have sent one generally, I've had a really busy week here too so I have only just seen your post.. The lady who saw them on Saturday took them both, she is a lovely lady so I'm sure that they will be well loved. Many thanks for your concern!
The latest is that the lady who posted the ad that Paul let me know about is coming to see them tomorrow, so fingers crossed! Thanks to everyone for all your efforts, they are much appreciated, let's hope that she does take them as they are so sweet and deserve a good home!
Hi, you're right, that is Monte Acuto, we see the quarried side. Maybe we will meet you at some point on market day, we usually check out Books for Dogs!
Thank you Paul, Angie and Robert, I will let you know how I get on. Paul - I've sent you a PM, and also I have uploaded the photo of them in a gallery, I'm not sure where that will appear!
Hi, many thanks for asking for me, that is much appreciated. If you could forward details for me I would be very grateful, I can read Italian. We haven't homed them yet, so I could follow up that lead. They are so sweet, they were quite frightened when we got them but have been responding well to fuss, a safe environment and food!
Thanks for all your responses, very kind of you all. I'm near Umbertide. Trapping the lizard that dashed under the bookcase was comical, me lying in wait with an empty ice cream carton, and hubby fishing it out with a feather duster! No rats or mice yet, hopefully it will stay that way.
I have ordered from this website: http://www.ecogreenstore.co.uk/index.php They have a very wide range of stuff, and you can get a package of up to 25kg delivered by courier to Italy, I think that the delivery cost was about 16 pounds. It was sent on a Thursday and arrived the following Tuesday. I thought that this was a very reasonable sum for such a heavy packet; you could also pool an order with others too.
Thank you - Sammy the cat is originally from Cyprus, but even so he seems to have been desperately searching out the coolest places! He's also brought two live lizards into the house, hmmm...

"Inspiring" even! I really shouldn't try to type in the dark...
