Cittadella (Veneto)
Cittadella is a medieval walled city in the province of Padua, northern Italy, founded in the 13th century as a military outpost of Padua.
The surrounding wall has been restored and is 1,461 meters (4,793 ft) in circumference with a diameter of around 450 meters (1,480 ft). The main tourist attraction of Cittadella is a tour of the ramparts ('camminamento di ronda').
There are four gates which roughly correspond the points of the compass. Other sights are the cathedral and the Captain’s House, which houses some of the best-preserved frescoes from the Malatesta family in the 16th century and a small museum that shows the progression of armor worn by soldiers that defended the city.

More of a comment than a question. I lived in Italy (Latina) for about a year (1979 and 1980). During that time I visited Venice roughly three times through out the seasons. During each visit, I was able to walk on St Mark's Square without getting my feet wet.
