9489 Insuring House in UK - Living in Italy

Don't know if anyone has answer to this problem? Although we live in Italy we own a house in UK which we use when visiting relatives etc. and part of the conditions of insurance of our insurer now is that we sleep in property 2 nights in every 28 days, this is now proving time consuming and with summer coming expensive. We decided to sell the house and because of UK property market this is taking longer than expected. Does anyone know of an insurer who covers second homes without need of this regular occupation?

I don't know of anyone in particular but on 'Googling' "UK holiday home insurance" a long list of companies came up who specialise in insuring second homes in the UK. I can only suggest you start to plough your way through the list and see if something suitable comes up. Good luck!

I can't help wondering how on earth, in the event of a claim, the insurance company could hope to know how many of the last 28 days you had spent in the house?! Surely its sensible simply to have good locks, turn appliances off when you leave, have someone pop-in once a week and check for leaks etc. and leave it at that.

With hundreds of thousands of pounds at risk I certainly don't want to give any insurer the opportunity of not paying a claim, and it would be up to me to prove I was staying there as per conditions of policy, and lie I would not!!!
