You could try posting on the Puglia Posse website as there are lots of Brits down there. There`s a library also so, you never know, someone down there might fancy starting up a bookshop. I`d have been quite interested myself if we hadn`t also had to move back to the UK. Good luck with your move.

Really good news for our Marche group, Nicky and Jeff have very kindly donated their bunk beds and mattresses, to help the victims of the Abruzzo earthquake. That means that we will have 18 beds to send to the area , plus bedding, which is fanatastic. These beds are nearly new and suitable for adults and children, so a big thank you from us.

It is an extraordinary act of kindness by Russ, done to help both us (the Sawyers) in our situation and the earthquake victims in Abruzzo.

This was made clear when the beds were made available to the group who are organising aid for the victims and we have never claimed credit for it; it is down to Russ and Sergio.

Thanks for the tolerance and support shown by the vast majority of you regarding our advertising of the property we've had to sell in order to get back to Britain.

This is the last time we'll be reading/posting on this forum.

Just so that you all know, there was some background to this, which I feel compelled to share with you all.

A few weeks back I saw that Ryanair was running a competition, seeking new ideas for revenue raising. I sent off an idea which was part tongue in cheek, but part based on logic and some uncomfortable flights I have had. Much to my amazement I found that out of 12,000 entries, mine was in the final 5! Now what has this got to do with Nicky and Jeff's beds I hear you ask?

Well, rather stupidly, in a fit of peak and excitement of hearing the news last week that I was in with a chance and amongst all the fundraising that was going on, I requested another forum member to post the voting link to Ryanair and if I won, said I would donate 50% of my winnings to the fund. I cannot and will not detail the reply I received, but the up shot was that this persons view was that the sole reason I was asking this was because I wanted to line my own pockets and there was no way that I could win without forum members support. I did try and explain this was absolutely not the case, but my explanation was met only with pure disgust and more vicious oupouring.

I took this really very hard, as it was never ever my motive and my focus was on the Euro500 for the fund and not for me. In retrospect I should have said the whole Euro1,000 and that would have made it alright presumably.

Anyway, yesterday at Nicky and Jeffs I saw they still had their beds that they had been desparately trying to sell for ages, to help them move back to the UK. The words that had been written about me were still ringing in my ears and I thought to myself, whether I win or lose this stupid competition, I'll buy the beds and see if they can get sent over to L'Aquila. So that was that.

Then this morning I discovered that from 100,000 votes, my suggestion had secured 40% of them, without the help from anyone, apart from a few real friends Some, who know me very well, suggested that a pot shouldn't call a kettle black. You will need to see the winning entry to understand that.

Was I so wrong to have suggested this "underhand" way of getting votes? To be honest, I really don't know, but what I do know is that I should have asked a real friend about my idea.

However, at the end of the day, it looks as though I might get the £900 back, Nicky and Jeff have got shot of the beds and a bit more cash to help them re--build their lives back in the UK and moreover 18 people (or 36 if they top 'n tail) will have somewhere comfortable to sleep tonight.

I apologise to anyone who is offended by either my suggestion to Ryanair or the methods in which I proposed to win this prize.

I just wish I could feel good about it.

I’m sure that it is better, in the end, to donate to the people of L’Aquila from your own generosity than to donate the proceeds of a rigged competition.

From what I read on the website the competition closed 6 pm yesterday. The winning entry- excess fees for overweight passengers based on body mass index, An overwhelming 40,000 people voted for Russ!!!

Well, someone has more than questioned it, as you saw from my earlier post.

For your informaton, [B][COLOR="red"]if [/COLOR][/B]I do win, you will see that the prize is in [B][COLOR="red"]Euro[/COLOR][/B], not pounds. Therefore at current exchange rates, I will [B][COLOR="red"]not[/COLOR][/B] get a hundred quid for my "stress", as the beds were paid for in pounds. Even now, another snide dig has to come in, doesn't it and again with no foundation.

Russ, I know you are fretting about this - but do you really want to force the issue here? Goading someone into saying their piece publically may mean they accept your challenge and step up to the plate. And then what would happen?

Yep and I am now watching my husband's waist measurement VERY closely. But the Forum Member who won the Ryanair competition, didn't keep the money ...it was used as part of the L'Aquila Donation I believe.....A long story but all in a good cause.

Russ, I think it's wonderful what you're doing. As for anyone, who has a problem with it: Get a life! I'm not able to donate much money but want to help whichever way I can. So thanks to anyone who's contributed to our food collection. We are now calling for help for the suffering animals. I know the call is for dry pet food. Having spoken to Sarah about the collection this morning, I know that all sorts of pet bedding, toys, baskets, food bowls, etc. would also be needed. so if you have any old blankets, etc... Also, is there anyone who would consider fostering an animal for anyone who's not able to look after their pet due to losing their home, etc but would like it back when their life has returned to normality? I would like to talk to Francesca from the rescue centre about setting up a pet fostering scheme.
I would also like to appeal for help for the children.
I'm having a sorting through my daughters out-grown clothes and obsolete toys. I think it would be great to collect any clothes and toys that people don't need for their children anymore. I'd be happy to organize a collection to take to Abbruzzo. So anyone wanting to contribute, please let me know. It'd be great if you can put the word out to anyone with children as surely they'll have things to add to a collection.

I dont believe the prize money has been paid out from Ryanair yet Noble and so it hasn't been donated to the Abruzzo Earthquake forum fund, although half of the total prize money (£500.00) was so very kindly promised to the fund by Russ, who has also very generously bought the bunk beds spoken about above.
