Crikey, I'm blowing of mine own trumpet

Goodness. In an effort to prove to the world that a motoring journalist can change its spots I just started a food writing blog, with a tenuously Italian twist, given current Marchegiana residence. Read at your peril. http://philwhite-writing.blogspot.com/

Liked the article, but you can get Thai ingredients delivered to your door here, as we have done for a number of years and it was next day delivery. Only last week we had a large delivery to restock supplies. Have been using the lemon grass we grew from seed, and am about to order the tiny Thai green aubergine seeds, which will enhance the eating experience even more.  Last night was a Thai green curry here and it is always great to have a change from spaghetti, whatever the northern Italian guy thinks. Wife is off to Thailand again next week, so sure our Thai friends will load her up with more delicious things for cooking. You may, or may not like this Thai recipe, but it is one of our favourites. Wife told me she ate this last night when she arrived in Thailand. All the ingredients are easily available. http://www.khiewchanta.com/archives/seafood/prawns-shrimp/raw-prawns-wit... Another you may like, substitute the chili paste for red curry paste. This is the nearest I can get to how we make it here. http://www.all-fish-seafood-recipes.com/index.cfm/recipe/Thai_Steamed_Se...

Great blog, Phil. Next time, have the fig paste with Peccorino Toscano. It is also fantastic with quince paste. From time to time, Lidl has a Thai week and you can buy a small amount of ingredients there. Definitely not the same thing as shopping for Oriental spices in the East, or the USA, or Australia. But not bad at all.

Blushing. Thanks very much for kind words you all! I'm not terribly insecure by nature, but it is lovely to be plauded. I'll carry on, then... I did a wonderful thing a couple of weeks ago. Having completed my removal work like a good boy, then went off to our old staming ground of Sheffield to do a whole bunch of errands. One of these was a trip to Thai Panna, the local South-East Asian food store. I'm now restocked on green and red curry paste, plus yellow and Masaman. Also tamarind for Joy (strange tastebuds, these Pinoys) and even better, freeze-dried lemon grass and galangal. Hurrah! Lidl's good for coconut milk - when they have it, buy the lot! I'll be doing the whole thing again at the end of the month. Next stop, Mr Shah's, Abbeydale Road. We need Indian spices... And I forgot lime leaves. Oops!
