General chat about Italy

Interesting article Derek, I am a confirmed people watcher, and I must say that it does seem that many of the older men here have difficulty in relating to children, till the kids are almost into their teens. But, the children here do seem to be far more mature and polite in their outlook than their English counterparts, there aren't many children around though.

I loved this quote....

"I have a friend who is married to someone who didn't help enough around the house. She didn't cave in to having a second child until he promised - on his mother's head - that he would do more." :)

I have noticed that in general there seems also to be a much greater age difference in Italy between partners. Combine this with women having babies later, its not uncommon to see first time fathers well into their forties, I notice the age of parents when dropping the children off at school

Not uncommon I am led to believe, but not at all what it seems llike to us

....She is always quite mistified when his Mama comes to stay from Rome ,it is my friend who sleeps in the guest bed...and he who shares thier double bed with his Mama.:D
Now that IS worrying....!
Yeah, I know, but he cant understand what all the fuss is about ! Im sure others will enlighten us...perhaps I should have added that the guest bed is an IKEA job (z bed thingy)..but very comfortable.Mama is not elderly ..60 ish.

Perhaps it's a respectful thing to do?
Never slept with my mother (except when i was a baby of course) and never heard of anyone else doing that.
Probably there's just a pratical reason.
On the other note talking of 'mama' My friend (British)
As they say: you can choose friends but family you are born with.:D

Perhaps the sensible option is to have less children.

Why should I inflict this awful modern society with drugs, violence, inter-racial & religious hatred on to someone I would love?

I see what you mean but not every child has to be brought up this way, for every chav child there hopefully is another who will learn another way, i think that the world can be a terrible place but it can be made better by the people in it.

I love my children and would face hell and then some before I let the terrible things you describe happen to them.
Some of us do try;)

Oh come on - cats in a bag is it?
Oh come on - cats in a bag is it?
I can assure you Relaxed that the last place I would keep my cat was in a bag, he likes to sleep on my bed and snore on my sofa, any cats I have I let out of the bag as soon as is necessary ;)

but never let a cat sleep on a laptop.........:)
Indeed we do try Baggio.. and I have no doubt whatsoever your kids are not only well loved.. but also lovely! :D

:) :)
You are too kind Aliena, I do my best but I'm sure my kid's would tell you I am not super mum, but they do know they are loved:)
