3137 Drink wine and all shall be well...

I really love all the wine-will-save-us stories that the Italian Wine association and sundry come up with - Here is a selection from the front page of Italy Magazine: white wine will fight bird flu (a couple of glasses a day): http://www.italymagazine.com/2006/news-from-italy/lifestyle/white-wine-may-help-against-bird-flu/ red wine will keep you young (although you probably need much more htan a couple of glasses a day): https://www.italymagazine.com/2006/news-from-italy/lifestyle/study-on-fish-indicates-red-wine-as-fountain-of-youth/ oh.. and it will also fight flu (another coupld of glasses will do just fine): http://www.italymagazine.com/2006/news-from-italy/lifestyle/red-wine-found-to-be-also-good-against-flu/ Only problem is that we will be too drunk to care by the end of it!

Would like to jump in at this point to defend Ronalds honour and reputation. I would ask politely that you leave this poor defenseless, weak and feeble creature alone, or meet me on the common for a duel at dawn!

Andy

I guess if I post about drinking I can only expect a few jibes :-) good to know there are people out there ready to defend me ;-)

Hmmm I wonder if I should try the red wine thing today ... My sinuses are blocked, I'm coughing & spluttering & all bones are creaking...

Will let you know if it helps... provided I'm not too drunk!! :D

Steph, my father in law swears by heating up the red wine and drinking it when he has flu, must be an Italian remedy, works for him, so go for it, wish you better,Francesca

Oohhh I guess it has the same effect as mulled wine? Very nice! Will try... ;)

Grazie, Francesca!

Ronald, thank you for the links, and very interesting information.
I shall try the Red Wine and as everyone said here, not to get to drunk.Hahahahaha.as not to be able to run the Forum. Hehe!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone here heard of the Bocelli wine called Rosso Toscano,it was made in 1998 and it is not sold here in the usa yet? It's a Red wine.

That is absolutely right, about wine helping a person to fight the Flu and
one or two glasses a day is healthy for the blood stream too.

Thanks again Ron.
Friend,Claire.

Oh yes, warm red wine - especially mulled - is a terrific flu remedy. But I always thought it was because it helped you sleep and you sort of sweated the cold out during the night.

Ladies, I have girlfriend in her late 50s with exquisite skin despite 20 years of summer sunning in Italy. I know for a fact that she drinks half a bottle of red wine a night, has done for years so perhaps there is something in this "keeps you looking young" business.

Also read that the University of Bordeaux had done a research and that red wine gives you something like a 73% less chance of Alzeimhers........
Seriously though - having just survived a really cold and bitter winter in Piemonte - I didn't get even a cold - so maybe all those glasses of lovely red 'Raboso' really do have beneficial qualities after all ??? Think I'll have to do much more research into this subject :)

Theres the well known "gazelle theory" that alcohol kills off the weaker brain cells allowing the brighter, stronger cells to thrive and live.

Myself I believe in the "wine goggles" everyone is beautiful, especially me!!!

The Value of a Drink

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink
I feel shame Then I look into the glass and think
about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes
and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out
of work and their dreams would be shattered.
Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this wine and let their
dreams come true than be selfish."
~ Jack Handy

Finally got round to trying Nero d'Avola from Sicily, very tasteful label too and very different than the Primativos. Bags of crushed berries, with a deep peppery aftertaste, but still quiet light, a delight...I did get hiccups though...
