Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi said on Monday that he was considering going to the opening the Beijing Summer Olympics but wanted to first confer with other leaders.
Presidents George W. Bush of the United States and Nicolas Sarkozy of France said at the weekend that they intended to attend the Olympic opening ceremonies.
Participation of western leaders at next month's inauguration had been placed in doubt earlier this year following China's harsh crackdown on Tibetan protestors.
Italy has said in the past that it would abide by the decision made by the European Union.
