The Telegraph reports that Silvio Berlusconi has personally ordered a new penis for a marble statue of Mars in the Prime Ministerial offices at Palazzo Chigi. The 6-foot high statue dates from around AD175 and is on loan from a museum.
The restoration has cost €70,000 [£59, 664 or $95,898] of tax payers’ money and the news comes at a time when many politicians are calling for the resignation of Culture Minister Sandro Bondi even before he faces a vote of no confidence over Italy’s crumbling architectural heritage .
