In the ongoing saga of Silvio Berlusconi’s multiple criminal trials, the defense is getting creative with witnesses. The team defending Italy’s premier has called George Clooney to testify.
In addition to the American movie star, the defense has also listed Italy’s foreign minister and several showgirls as witnesses in the prime minister’s prostitution trial.
Not to be outdone, the prosecution is calling on the testimony of 33 alleged call girls, including the now infamous ‘Ruby Heart-stealer.’
Both sides have submitted their lists to the Milan court where the trial will be held. A judge will now decide which witnesses to allow when the trial opens next week.
Clooney made the list of potential eyewitnesses when Ruby mentioned that she had seen the actor with his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis at one of Berlusconi’s parties.
How does George Clooney feel about providing testimony in Silvio Berlusconi's defense?
"It seems odd since I've only met Berlusconi once and that was in an attempt to get aid into Darfur," he announced through a representative.
Clooney and Canalis, who often stay at the actor's home on Lake Como, have both denied that they ever attended a dinner at Berlusconi’s villa.
