Google Italy has analyzed the internet searches of citizens preparing for summer holidays and the "Bel Paese" remains the destination of choice among Italians.
According to Google’s report 63% of consumers will remain in Italy for the summer season, with 64% of those domestic tourists heading to the sea or the lake.
28% of tourists will stay nearby, opting to holiday in Spain and the Greek islands. While 9% of Italian travelers are expected to jet off to far away places like Brazil and New York.
The most popular Italian destinations in 2010 included Sardinia, Tuscany and Puglia, with more travelers expected in Bologna and Rome as well this year.
In particular, the growing trend of gay and lesbian tourism will help with projected growth this year, making up 7% of total revenues this year.
