All limits in Japan on imports of buffalo milk mozzarella cheese from Italy's Campania region have been lifted, Italian Agriculture Minister Paolo De Castro said here on Monday.
Japan put limits on mozzarella imports last month after dioxins were discovered in a number of cheese plants in the Naples area.
Under pressure from the European Union, Italy immediately carried out tests on farms in the region, closing down those farms and plants which were at risk.
The fact that Japan has lifted all limits on mozzarella imports, De Castro observed, ''shows the effectiveness of the controls carried out''.
The move by Japan was also important, he added, ''because in cases like these it is easy to create confusion. We must avoid situations like these from spreading''.
