Santo Versace spared no feelings on Thursday when he openly criticized the youth of Italy. Speaking at a conference regarding the state of the Italian economy, the fashion powerhouse chastised the country’s bamboccioni- the big babies who live with their parents well into their 30s.
Versace lamented, “We've taught our young people to despise manual work… Raphael and Michelangelo were craftsmen, and Ferragamo too."
He reprimanded unemployed youth, arguing that there are plenty of jobs in Italy but the younger generations are content to stay home and wait for an easy payday.
While many sectors around the world are still attempting to recover from the global recession, Italy’s fashion industry is making impressive profits. Perhaps the young people of Italy would do well to take advice from a man of unparalleled success.
