Hi, we have been told by two separate geometre's and one ditta (working with one of the geometre's) that in Italy the builders merchants will not nromally deal with the public, and if they do, then we will not be able to obtain any discount. This sounds suspicious as at home we have spent a lot of money on a house and negotiated 40% on all materials. Here in Italy we will be spending seven figures on the rebuild of two houses so had assumed that most merchants would want our money. Has anyone any experience of this and any suggestions? We don't want credit, just a good working relationship and financial deal from the merchant. Thanks

Of course builders merchant will deal with the public - the professionals wont like it, as they usuallyget a kick back, but I doubt you will negotiate a huge discount - profit margins in Italy are not that high on building supplies.

Go direct to the builders or get you builders to contact them on your behalf.think your geometres might have their own interests at heart......it might not be 40% but you will get discount and figures rounded up if you say how much you are going to spend with them.
