well i dont, cause i didnt drink it in england either...or anywhere else for that matter but was suprised not sure why to be offered a beer one day from a micro birrificio of notaresco which was very good... although the equivalent of a lager...so most of this will be european type beers... but they do produce some very dark ones as well http://www.opperbacco.it/ thats one... theres another one just outside Pescara... more well known i guess http://www.birreartigianali.org/ now i know the north of Italy produces lots... and have tried many... again all light beers ...so real ale people will have to investigate further to see if they can find something to be served at lukewram temps so if its here then i believe this site will have it... a list of all the small breweries in Italy... well lots of them... abruzzo has seven... but each region is listed.. and am sure there are tastings available...http://www.microbirrifici.org/default.aspx just make sure you have a non drinking driver with you as they seem to go for quite strong ale here of whatever color

On the Salaria at Spinetoli is a store called Camaioni www.camaioni1930.it/ where they sell those great beer kits that we used to get in UK. The young man at the counter is a real fanatic, and when we started to discuss making your own beer he even copied the instructional DVD for me free of charge! He has a great range of types of beer, and when the weather gets a bit cooler I'm determined to have a go.If any of you decide to call there; it's on the main road just before the traffic lights on the left. They also supply wholesale bottles for wine / oil, demijohns and the next size up (Johns?), ornamental dispensers for grappa etc, and a full range of bee keeping stuff. As ever go with time to spare as you won't get simply in and out. We're in Italy...

agrre that when you find a place like that its worth taking time...we have two or three surrounding Teramo that i visit... each time i find another hidden corner with something useful although half the time am not sure for what on a dusty shelf...remeber the same sorts of places in Devon... lots of horsey stuff and nails sold by weight... and the smell of animal feeds...to get back to beer...it seems the last site on my posting ...if you go into the englsih info section it allows you to upload a location file on to your tom tom... a very useful addition i would think.....

For those of you who are missing a pint of English or Irish beer, there is a 'pub' in the centre of Pollenza called Brian Bru where they have a number of different beers on tap and bottled.  You are also able to eat there too.

At Porto D'Ascoli (AP) there's a couple of pubs with a vast range of draught beers. Also from now until 9 August at Stella di Monsampolo along the Salaria - Ascoli - Porto D'Ascoli there's a beer sagra with Liffe, Löwenbräu, Becks etc on draught. Not the same I must admit as a decent pint of warm Bass, but anyway...When I make our beer anyone passing our local; 'The Jean's Arms'; is welcome to call for a pint, a game of darts and some snacky type things!

..are Almond22 at Spoltore e Lacu at Moscufo, just around the corner from where I live.If you go to Almond on a Saturday afternoon, Jury will be there and explain everything you would want to know. He's half swedish, and speaks exellent english. And his dark beers are great!
