Single Mom Looking to trade Work for Lodging

I am posting this for a friend who would greatly appreciate any advice.  I have her e-mail, web and contact information which is available if anyone would like to pm me. Single Mom + 12 Year Old Seeking Interesting Experiences for 3 Month Visit to Italy Spring/summer 2011 will be my last chance to spend several months with my soon-to-be teenager. After that, long trips with Mom will no longer be a cool option, I’m sure. Open to all locations within Italy with some of the following criteria. I’m not sure what I’m looking for, but I’ll recognize it when it presents itself.

• -I’m looking to trade some of my services for lodging. My expertise, as a nutritionist, cookbook author, recipe developer and in public relations could lend itself to working in a small, food business,in hospitality business or an agriculture-based business (agriturismo). I am very entrepreneurial and have been self-employed my entire life. A business where my English language would be a learning plus to family and to the business would be ideal. Not seeking a full time job as we will want time to explore Italy via side trips.
• My son may go to a local Italian school for a few months, if possible, especially if we come in the spring, not summer. It is my understanding that, at least in smaller towns, it is possible to have a child admitted for a few months without my making arrangements prior to arrival. He will be in 7th grade, middle school.
• Wish to be near a town that has access to public transportation; I will not have a car
• Wish to be near a town, and not too isolated in the country, so that there are other kids for my son to interact with
• I’m open to all practical suggestions and will gladly follow up on leads anyone can provide.
